HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMING TO ARCADIA

T
he city of Arcadia is in the process of drafting ordinances on historic preservation within the city. Until now, historic preservation has not had any clear boundaries within Arcadia and no ordinance has been adopted yet.
Aimed at safeguarding historic districts, structures and buildings, these ordinances are expected to provide defined procedures and criteria for property owners and communities to judge their historic relevance. In 1913 Anita Baldwin, Lucky’s daughter, built a 50-room mansion on 19 acres of the Baldwin Ranch she inherited from him, and named it “Anoakia” (Anita and oak). 1999 Council razed the historic property and voila, McMansions were born.

Prior to Monday, there were only two women figure skaters in the world who had successfully landed a triple axel in an Olympic competition: Japanese skaters Midori Ito (in 1992) and Mao Asada (in 2010 and 2014). At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang,
South Korea, Arcadia skater Mirai Nagasu made history by becoming the third woman ever — and the first American woman ever — to land a triple axel at the Olympics. Nagasu landed the jump during the opening SEE HISTORY PAGE 10

The Arcadia Police Department continues to be proactive in efforts to combat package theft. APD has made numerous theft arrests since they began placing GPS equipped bait packages throughout the City. Some of these theft arrests have led to additional charges and investigations.
Officers were alerted to a package having been taken in the 500 block of Santa Rosa, they quickly located the suspects still driving in a nearby neighborhood. The suspects were stopped and detained without incident. Not only was the stolen SEE FOURSOME PAGE 10
