n Tuesday afternoon several Monrovia Police Officers waited tables at the aptly named “Cop”per Still on Myrtle Avenue. The officers worked in tandem with the regular wait staff to serve all the patrons of this new dining spot. All their tips as well as 25% of the profits for the time went to Foothill Unity Center. There were a few tense moments as the officers took to the floor, but not a single drop was spilled nor plate broken. It could not have been easy for several large groups stopped in including one from Unity Center itself, as well as Judy Schaeffler and the crew from Foothill Credit Union and Matt Zook and the guys from Douglas and Zook. Sergeant Dan Verna explained that the waiters were all volunteers from the Monrovia Police Officers Association. He also estimated that they would be able to donate over $500 to Unity Center. Chrystal Nahidi and Dave Augusto, the Bar Manager and General Manager respectively, both said they were glad to work on a project that benefited the community. Chrystal added that she looked forward to more such events in the coming months. “We want to be a part of this community,” she said.

What do painted bears, rules about Styrofoam and blog sites have to do with each other? The simple answer is, if it happens in, or affects Old Town Monrovia, it’s connected. So here we go… I’ve mentioned before that there has been

a recent discussion at City Council about the use of Styrofoam take-out containers in Monrovia. I was pleased to see the City Council’s response to the concerns: instead of pushing for an outright ban on the product, or any product, the Council has asked staff to implement a policy which prohibits the City SEE OLD TOWN PAGE 10
