Riverside Unified School District Mourns Loss Of 2015 Graduate Killed In Las Vegas One of the victims of the Las Vegas shooting tragedy was a 2015 graduate of Riverside Poly High School. This is a tremendous loss for the Riverside Unified family, and they are shaken and saddened by this news. Poly High staff remembers Angela Gomez (also known as Angie) as a “funloving young lady with a great sense of humor.” They say she loved the stage and participated for many years with Riverside Children’s Theater, as well as being involved in her middle and high school choirs. Angie was a hard-worker who always challenged herself academically, and after graduation she went on to attend classes at Riverside Community College. Angie was a loyal friend who loved her family and will be forever missed by all who knew her. This has been an especially tough time for Poly High School’s students, staff and families, as they also recently lost longtime teacher, Leo Caudill, who taught in their Social Sciences department for

Beaumont City Councilmember Pleads Guilty To Felony Charges
A Beaumont city councilmember pleaded guilty to one count of bribery and one count of perjury for crimes he committed while serving on the city council. Mark Anthony Orozco, DOB: 10-3-76, of Beaumont, entered the pleas before Judge Samuel Diaz at the Hall of Justice in Riverside. Orozco is scheduled to be sentenced at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 24, 2017. Orozco is expected to be sentenced to three years of formal probation and six months of alterna-
tive sentencing (in this case home confinement). He also will be ordered to pay a $10,000 fine and must immediately resign from the Beaumont City Council following his sentencing. A conviction of bribery will result in a lifetime bar on holding public office for Orozco. The bribery conviction results from a grand jury indictment (RIF1770130) from May of this year charging Orozco with soliciting a bribe from a See Page 3

Former Church Transformed Into Affordable Senior Housing Community
City of Long Beach in partnership with Thomas Safran and Associates (TSA) and Clifford Beers Housing, Inc., celebrated the grand opening of Immanuel Place. The adaptive reuse of the former Immanuel Church preserves the historic and culturally significant building, and creates a new affordable housing development for lowerincome seniors. “Long Beach is working to meet the vital need for affordable housing for seniors to support
the vibrant and diverse communities of this City,” said Mayor Robert Garcia. “This development not only provides additional housing opportunities for seniors with limitedincome, but also gives a historic building new life.” Located at 3215 E. 3rd St., the three-story development features 24 one-bedroom units for low-income seniors, including 15 units for individuals experiencing homelessness or at-risk See Page 2

Temple City Team Finishes Fourth At National Championships
A Junior Tennis Team From Temple City, Calif. Representing The Usta Southern California Section, Finished Fourth At The 2017 Junior Team Tennis 18U National Championships, Held At The Usta National Campus At Lake Nona In Orlando, Fla., Sept. 29 – Oct. 1. The 2017 Usta Junior Team Tennis 18U National Championships Brought Together The Top 29 Teams At Intermediate And Advanced Levels From Various Usta Sections Throughout The Country.
This Is The First Time The Event Was Held At The Usta National Campus. Istringing Team Tenacity Fell To A Team From Baltimore, Md. And The Usta Mid-Atlantic Section In The Third Place Match By A Score Of 49-48.
