Pasadena and Metro Make History Friday With New Bike Share Program

Hundreds of people braved the morning heat as Metro’s Bike Share program kicked off Friday morning. Mayor Terry Tornek of the City of Pasadena, Metro Board Member John Fasana and many more donned their riding helmets and sped off into the sunrise to help celebrate this new peogram Metro offers to help ease the carbon footprint in Los Angeles County. Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro), the City of Pasadena and Bicycle Transit Systems, Inc. officially launched Metro’s innovative Bike Sharing system Friday. Pasadena Independent got into the swing of things with CEO Jesse Dillion and one of our Advertising Reps., Jose Luis Correa joined Mayor Torneck and other officials as they rode west of city hall.
Up to 375 bicycles and approximately 30 bike share stations are now provided throughout the Pasadena area for the first time, giving residents and visitors new active transportation options for shortdistance bicycle trips to key Pasadena destinations and transit stations. On Thursday, July 13, 2017 at approximately 10:30 PM the City of Riverside Emergency Dispatch center received calls of a single vehicle traffic collision on Arlington Ave. at Sunset Ranch. Riverside Police and Fire personnel arrived at the scene where they located the driver and sole occupant suffering from fatal injuries. It appears due to the initial investigation and witness statements a silver 2017 Buick Regal was being driven by a 34 year old resident of Riverside northbound on Arlington Ave. at a high rate of speed. The Buick struck the center median on the east side of
the intersection of Arlington Ave. and Sunset Ranch before going across the eastbound lanes of Arlington Ave. and striking a retaining wall and a street light pole on the south side of Arlington Ave. The driver suffered was pronounced at the scene. The Riverside Police Departments Major Accident Investigation Team responded and is currently investigating. The release of the identity of the deceased is pending the coroner’s investigation. A man who operates an alcohol live-in program has been charged with the death of a man who was under the rehab’s care last year, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced. Jason Aviles (dob 3/20/91) of Long Beach faces one count of murder in case BA458474. Aviles is scheduled to be arraigned today in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal

Head of Rehab Program Charged with Murder of Patient Justice Center. The case was filed for warrant on June 22. Victim José Sandoval, 60, checked into the Grupo Renacer rehab facility on Aug. 11, 2016, prosecutors said. On Aug. 15, 2016, the defendant, who has no professional medical training, allegedly blocked Sandoval’s airway using a spoon and tape and stood on the agitated victim’s chest, prosecutors added.
Sandoval died of asphyxia, prosecutors said. If convicted as charged, Aviles faces a possible maximum sentence of 25 years to life in state prison. Bail is scheduled at $2 million. Deputy District Attorney Paul Guthrie is the assigned prosecutor. The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department, Newton Division.
