Trump’s First 100 Days Filled With ‘Hate, Lies, Division, and Dysfunction’

pril 29, 2017 marked the 100th day of President Trump’s presidency, a marker used for every President since Franklin Roosevelt. Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-27) is one of score of legislators who are appalled by the new administration’s actions. “Trump’s first 100 days have been filled with hate, lies, division, and dysfunction. Over the past 100 days, we have seen President Trump take a series of risky actions that have undercut the safety and security of all Americans. His anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim rhetoric has fueled a disturbing surge in hate violence targeting our communities, particularly those in the South Asian, Sikh, Muslim, Arab, and Middle Eastern communities. This surge in hate has been exacerbated by his Muslim travel ban, which continues to target communities of color, creating great fear and anxiety,” Judy Chu said. “Moreover, his draconian immigration enforcement actions are targeting millions of Americans – including DREAMers and DACA recipients – and separating families. President Trump’s desire to move America from a familybased immigration system to a merit-based system will not only tear families apart, but disproportionately impact AAPI communities. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson recently announced additional honors for 23 of the 275 middle schools and high schools that were recognized as Gold Ribbon Schools last month. Twenty-three of those Gold Ribbon Schools have been selected as having an Exemplary Program in Arts Education, Career Technical Education or Physical Activity and Nutrition. Schools applied separately for those honors. Van Nuys Man Pleads to Leaving Baby in Car While Attending Strip Club A 26-year-old man recently pleaded no contest to leaving his 9-month-old daughter inside a car while he visited a strip club, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

State Schools Chief Tom Torlakson Announces Exemplary Program Awards

Deputy District Attorney Julie Kramer said Auwin Dargin of Van Nuys entered the plea to one felony count of child abuse in case PA085994. Dargin was immediately sentenced to five years

probation and 10 days in county jail. He also was ordered to complete 45 days of Caltrans service and 52 weeks of parenting classes. On March 9, 2016, the defendant left his baby daughter in the car for 43

minutes while visiting a strip club at approximately 2 p.m., according to court testimony. The baby was sweating and crying when she was found in the car by employees of the club and neighboring business employees.

The good Samaritans rescued the child and confronted Dargin as he stepped outside of the club, the prosecutor said. The case was investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department, Mission Division.

The Arcadia City Council adopted an Unoccupied Residence Registration Ordinance which will go into effect May 5, 2017. The Ordinance establishes regulations and registration requirements for unoccupied residences in the City of Arcadia. The purpose of the registry is to protect neighborhoods from the adverse effects of unoccupied residences that are not adequately maintained and to be able to directly comSEE PAGE 2
