Monrovia Days 2017 Celebration Slated May 20 – 21, Carnival Returns

onrovia Days is the city’s annual community birthday party where Monrovians gather to celebrate our talented youth and the Scholars and Champions from Monrovia Unified School District. This year the Monrovia Days celebration will be a two-day event held Saturday, May 20, and Sunday, May 21, … the City of Monrovia, the Monrovia Unified School District, and Centre Stage have coordinated to bring back the carnival. Pancake Breakfast event, a Parade honoring our Scholars and Champions from MUSD, performances by our youth, Carnival food… and of course the famous Pie Eating Contest! For more information, please check out the City’s website, or visit the Monrovia Days’ event website! You won’t want to miss this weekend-long Community Celebration. Are you interested in being in the Monrovia Days Parade? The Monrovia Days Parade will start at 10 a.m. on Myrtle Avenue at Chestnut Avenue, and will head north on Myrtle Avenue to Library Park. Monrovia’s Clifton Middle School 1 of 275 California Gold Ribbon Schools Tom Torlakson Tuesday announced that 275 middle schools and high schools are being honored under the Gold Ribbon Schools Awards Program. “These terrific schools are leading the way in embracing our new rigorous aca-

City Council Adjourns in Honor of Joannie Yuille On Tuesday, the Monrovia City Council adjourned in honor of Joannie Yuille. In the course of the meeting Council Member Larry Spicer announced that Yuille had

passed away earlier that day. No announcement of services has yet been made. A more complete tribute to her will be included in next week’s edition of this publication.
