n attempted murder in Monrovia led Oliver Chi to discuss, in his City Manager’s Update on Tuesday, the lasting ramifications of recent legislation and initiatives that substantially changed the way convicted criminals are treated in the State of California. A discussion of crime in general also led the City Council to a similar discussion at the Council Meeting later that evening. In his weekly update, Chi related the circumstances of an attempted murder in the 100 block of E. Los Angeles St., in Monrovia. Monrovia Old Town Report BY PAM FITZPATRICK I was having my usual Old Town breakfast last week when a very happy friend stopped by my table and asked me if I knew what was going on up at Library Park. My immediate thoughts of “oh no...” turned to “how lovely…” when

my friend told me she had been given a flower along with a message of “have a nice day.” Now, I knew it was National Cabbage Day (but that hardly deserved a flower distribution….), so SEE PAGE 6

Flag Stands to Provide for Safer Crosswalks in Old Town Monrovia

The Monrovia Old Town Advisory Board (MOTAB) has initiated a Flag Stand Program in Old Town with a trial run starting this week in the middle of the 500 block of South Myrtle Avenue (between Lemon and Colorado). Flag stands have been placed on both sides

of the street adjacent to the mid-block cross walk. Pedestrians are being urged to pick up a flag and carry it while crossing the street, returning the flag to the stand on the opposite side of the street. SEE PAGE 15
