Last week ICE raided workplaces across the US and arrested over 700. 161 in the Los Angeles area, alone. The Homeland Security Department said Monday that 680 people were arrested in roundups last week -- 161 of them in the Los Angeles area -- targeting immigrants living illegally in the United States. Two Suspects Arrested for Illegal Marijuana Cultivation in San Gabriel On February 15, 2017 at approximately 7:00 a.m., detectives from the San Gabriel Police Department served a search warrant at a commercial property located at 100 South San Gabriel Boulevard in the City of San Gabriel, which served as former site of a major auto dealership several years ago. During the warrant service, police discovered an illegal

marijuana cultivation operation housed inside a 42,000 square foot building at the east portion of the property that was previously used as a vehicle service area and auto body shop. This initial large scale grow consisted of several rooms containing over 4,200 marijuana plants in various stages of maturity, supported by artificial lighting as well as sophisticated

hydroponic and ventilation systems. Phong Day Ung, a 36 year old male from Rosemead, was found working inside the location and arrested at the scene for felony marijuana cultivation. As detectives continued their search of the property, another separate marijuana grow was found hidden inside a building directly un-

der the main office area at the northwest portion of the premises. Although this building was void of any visible entry points from the outside, it was later found to contain several fabricated interior rooms and a similar marijuana cultivation operation containing over 2,600 plants that included a secret interior passage way to the upstairs office. Yun-

tong Zheng, a 34 year old male from Monterey Park, was also arrested for felony marijuana cultivation when he returned to the scene. The search warrant service was the culmination of a two week long investigation by Special Enforcement Team detectives based on an anonymous tip from a citizen. The investigation

is ongoing as detectives are working to determine if the two marijuana grows found at the commercial property are linked or independent operations. In addition, San Gabriel Fire Department and Code Enforcement personnel responded to the location to assess the safety conditions and business licensing requirements for the property.
