RIVERSIDE HONORS “KEEPERS OF THE INN,” WITH ROSE PARADE® FLOAT Duane and Kelly Roberts recognized for “Making a Difference” Riverside’s 2018 Rose Parade® float honors Duane and Kelly Roberts, who revived the Mission Inn Hotel & Spa when it had been closed for seven years and then created a Riverside holiday tradition with the annual Festival of Lights, bringing millions of people to the city during the past quarter-century. Riverside is honoring the Roberts family in keeping with the Rose Parade’s 2018 theme of “Making A Difference.” The float is the first from Riverside in nearly 60 years and symbolizes the strong bond between the city, the community and the historic and iconic hotel. More than 500,000 people visit Riverside each

year during The Mission Inn Hotel & Spa’s Festival of Lights, including 75,000 at the annual Switch-On Ceremony at the Mission Inn, which takes place the day after Thanksgiving. The hotel is illuminated with 5 million lights, followed by a spectacular fireworks display. Visitors enjoy a historic downtown that hums with activity, a serious departure from the days before the Mission Inn reopened. In the past decade, downtown Riverside has seen the addition of new restaurants, bars, coffeehouses, shops and more. Residents and visitors alike

Last month, more than 45 formerly homeless families celebrated one year of having a roof over their heads. The residents at Rockwood Apartments, have spent the past year settling in to their new homes and taking advantage of the extra services and programs offered to them. At Rockwood, Innovative Housing Opportunities Inc. hosts a variety of workshops intended to help residents get back on their feet and help them stay off the streets. These programs include

health and wellness, entrepreneurship, career development and financial security. The programs are not only for adults. The kids living at Rockwood also receive extra care. Jamboree Housing Corp. creates partnerships with local youth programs, such as Higher Ground, to provide after-school activities. A whale carcass found floating near the Port of Long Beach was left tied to a dock Thursday morning as officials determined what to do with it, according to a report on KTLA news.

San Bernardino Mother Arrested For Child Endangerment

On Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017, deputies from the Colorado River Station/Needles Police Department received a request from the San Bernardino County Department of Child and Family Services to check the welfare of three minor children who were living in a home in the 500 block of R. Street in Needles. The referral indicated poor living conditions for the children in the home as well as concerns

that the parent of the children was addicted to narcotics. While at the home Deputy Yates contacted Amanda Hancock, the mother of the three children, who was displaying objective signs that she was under the influence of a controlled substance. CVS Pharmacy Agrees To Pay Fines Set By L.A. Judge

CVS Pharmacy, Inc., has agreed to designate two executives who will be accountable for pricing issues in Southern and Northern California under a judgment modifying a 2015 settlement for allegedly overcharging customers at checkout, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced. The Rhode Islandbased company also
