Documents Detail Arcadia Ballot Measure Aimed at Reducing Home Size BY JOE TAGLIERI A coalition of Arcadia residents have been gathering signatures for a petition that seeks to qualify for the upcoming election a voter initiative, which if passed would significantly revise guidelines for building new homes. The group, Saving Arcadia, is comprised of more than 100 homeowner association members and other residents from neighborhoods throughout the city who hope to quell what they claim is rampant mansioni-
zation that has progressively increased throughout the last two decades. Feeling let down by what they see as city officials’ unwillingness to check land developers’ push to build bigger houses that command an increasingly inflated sale price, residents decided to attempt putting the issue to a popular vote in April. The Tournament of Roses Thursday named Erika Karen Winter as the 98th Rose Queen in an official ceremony at the Pasadena Convention Center. Hundreds of family members, friends and wellwishers attended the event in their Sunday-best outfits and despite the lack of airconditioning in the hall, Royal watchers seemed to have a speldid time waiting for the announcement. The proclamation concludes a month-long process that began with more than 900 Pasadena-area young women who participated in the Royal Court tryouts at Tournament House. The ceremony Thursday was emceed by Stephanie Edwards, who will conclude her 35-year run as co-host for the

Grand Theft Suspects Leads Arcadia PD on Wild Chase On Saturday, Oct. 25, at about 11:47 p.m., Arcadia police officers attempted to stop a vehicle in the area of Sunset Boulevard and Duarte Road for vehicle code violations. The vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit entered the city of Temple City where the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into an Edison telephone pole.

The driver fled the vehicle on foot, a perimeter was established and the suspect was apprehended. The vehicle was reported stolen in the city of South El Monte at approximately 9:20 p.m. on Oct. 24. The suspect was identified as Bryan Paul Sanchez, 20 years old, of El Monte. SEE PG. 16
