ummer is officially almost over and fall is just around the corner. As we trade in our shorts and flip-flops for something a little warmer, it is time for all of us to gear up for a season of Santa Ana winds, pumpkin spice lattes, cooler weather, and the fun fall events the San Gabriel Valley has to offer. This fall season, there are many entertaining events and performances in the arts that you and the family definitely will not want to miss. This fall’s theatre season is packed with exciting and thrilling plays and musicals, such as Real Women Have Curves and Breaking Through at the Pasadena Playhouse and A Flea in Her Ear, Jean Anouilh’s Antigone, and All My Sons at A Noise Within. A Closer Look: Parson’s Nose Theater

Parson’s Nose is a nonprofit, professional theater company of classically trained artists (Broadway, Off-Broadway, Regional Theater) whose mission it is to introduce classical theater to contemporary audiences. We perform condensed adaptations that present the language, characters, plots, and spirit of the world’s

greatest writers. Not just Shakespeare, but Molière, Dickens, Andersen, Shaw – the greatest writers of Western Literature. Plays are adapted to approximately 90-minute productions that both adults and young adults can enjoy. All performances are “Pay What You Will” because we believe that no one should be turned away from

the arts if they can’t afford a ticket. We’re about to enter our 16th Season in Pasadena – come join us! www.ParsonsNose.com “Many theater companies have stated the goal of making the classics accessible to modern audiences, but few accomplish it as successfully as Parson’s Nose.” –Huffington Post.

Nearly 50 fine artists and 10 chalk artists will display their mastery at Monrovia’s 52nd Annual “Celebrate the Arts” Show and first ever ChalkFest in Library Park, Sept. 26 and 27, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Organized by the Monrovia Association of Fine Arts (MAFA), this year’s show will include many firsts: the first ChalkFest for Monrovia, first appearance by students from Mt. Sierra College, first kids’ chalk activities and coloring

contest, and first live glass blowing demonstration. Students from Monrovia and Canyon high schools will display and demonstrate their ceramics and urban art work. A dozen live musical and dance acts will perform in the afternoons and a Silent Auction will feature the artists’ work, with proceeds going to support arts education for kids and teens in Monrovia. Food trucks will offer tempting treats throughout both days.

MAFA gratefully acknowledges event support from the City of Monrovia, the Volunteer Center, Monrovia Community Services, Arcadia Association of Realtors, Advantage Ford, Blick Art Supply, ChapCare, Chicago Title, Ward Auto Service, Donna Baker, Realtor, Hugo Torres, Realtor, Brian Huffman Photography, and Paint ‘n’ Play Studio. The Monrovia Association of Fine Arts is a Section 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Coleman Chamber Music Association Founded in 1904 by Alice Coleman (later Alice Coleman Batchelder), the Coleman Chamber Music Association is one of the oldest organizations in the United States dedicated to the presentation, understanding, and enjoyment of chamber music. Coleman’s activities include an annual series of six chamber music concerts in Caltech’s Beckman Auditorium and a nationally recognized annual competition for young chamber music performers. When Miss Alice Coleman introduced her concerts in 1904, performance was effectively the only way to hear music. Recordings could be made on cylinders lasting no more than two minutes, and radio lay far in the future. Today access to music is much wider, but the magic of live performance remains unique. In 2004 Coleman celebrated a full century of devotion to the performance and development of chamber music. Pasadena Museum of History’s new exhibition Fabulous Fashion compares three significant decades of women’s fashion history that were shaped by society, economics, and lifestyle. Over forty exquisite garments, accented by accessories and other materials from the Museum’s extensive collections, illustrate the swing from rigid structure to freedom and back to restrictive customs. Women’s fashions in the 1890s were characterized by the hourglass silhouette with high necklines and huge sleeves emphasizing a small waist. These beautiful, but restricting gowns are juxtaposed against the loose-fitting bodice and high hemlines typical of the 1920s. Another thirty years and the dresses return to the small, corseted waists and full skirts of the 1950s, visually illustrating the shift in women’s roles from era to era. Fabulous Fashion is on view in the History Center Galleries from 12 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays beginning Friday, Oct. 9, 2015, and continuing through Sunday, Feb. 14. Special programming will be offered in relation to this exhibition. Please check the Events listings on the Museum website for dates and details. Fabulous Fashion is made possible in part by the Pasadena Arts & Culture Commission and the City of Pasadena Cultural Affairs Division. The exhibit is also sponsored by PMH’s Textile Arts Council and French Hand Laundry. Tickets: General Admission: $7; free for children under 12 and Museum Members are available in the Museum Store (no reservations necessary). Pasadena Museum of History is located at 470 W. Pasadena’s Critical Darling: A Noise Within

A Noise Within presents classic repertory theatre in a rotating repertory model—interchanging three plays within a season’s time. For the past 24 years, A Noise Within has gained prominence as one of Southern California’s most respected theatres, earning 26 Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards. It was also the youngest com-

pany ever to receive the Margaret Harford Award for Distinguished Achievement. A Noise Within produces world-class performances of great works of drama and comedy, including Romeo and Juliet, Tartuffe, and their “enchanting” (LA Weekly) production of A Christmas Carol. As “one of the nation’s premier clas-

sical repertory companies” (The Huffington Post), ANW attracts patrons from the San Gabriel Valley and beyond. In fall 2015, A Noise Within brings A Flea in Her Ear, All My Sons, and the world premiere of a new adaptation of Jean Anouilh’s Antigone to theater lovers in their historic mid-Century location in East Pasadena.
