Huntington Memorial Hospital Faces Multiple Agency Investigations

By Terry Miller It hasn’t been a good couple of weeks for Huntington Hospital. Actually the year thus far has brought more than its fair share of negative publicity to one of California’s preeminent hospitals. First, the California Nurses’ Association’s (CNA) unionization efforts were seemingly thwarted by RNs who stood by the hospital and the management of HMH. Then, more recently, two nurses fired from the hospital claim the sacking was a direct result of their efforts to unionize. In March, Beacon Media published scores of letters from community members and Registered Nurses on both sides of the issue of unionization. In the final analysis, there were 539 votes against union representation and 445 in favor, with 175 “challenged” ballots pending resolution. The election results will not be finalized until all other charges against Hun-

City of El Monte Reduces Water Consumption by 28 Percent by staff writer The El Monte Water District’s July 2015 production amounts, when compared to the July 2013 baseline level, reflect a reduction amount of 28 percent. Teacher Arrested for Inappropriate Contact With El Monte Student On Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015, at 10:30 a.m., an El Monte Police School Resource Officer was notified by Arroyo High School Administration of an allegation of inappropriate contact between a female student and a male teacher. An investigation occurred and it was determined that over the last six months, the teacher had a sexual relationship with the student. The suspect was identified as Richard Paul Daniels of Rancho Cucamonga, who was later arrested and booked at the El Monte Police Department for the listed charges. According to the Arroyo
High School website, Daniels is listed as “the science department chair, he is also an Earth Science instructor, football coach and content specialist.” Daniels will be arraigned on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2015, at the Pomona Superior Courthouse. Anyone with information regarding any recent or past inappropriate contact with Richard Daniels is being asked to telephone the El Monte Police Department at (626) 580-2109.
