Supreme Court Rules Same-Sex Marriage Legal in United States; Supporters Hail Civil Rights Victory
BY TERRY MILLER In a landmark opinion, a divided Supreme Court ruled Friday that states cannot ban same-sex marriage, establishing a new civil right and handing gay rights advocates a victory that until very recently would have seemed unthinkable. Word travelled fast and Pasadena Pride Center along with Planned Parenthood quickly mobilized a small celebration at the Metro Lake Ave Gold Line Station Friday night. Scores of men, women, and children held up signs like “Love Wins” and “Equal Rights” and even a couple of “Monks 4 Eqaulity [sic]” to the sounds of commuters honking their horns in solidarity on the commute home. Kahlon Makes Another Run for Supervisor Seat BY JOE TAGLIERI Raj Kahlon is a longtime 5th District resident who is making another run for a seat on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. In the last election he tried to defy the odds and unseat Michael Antonovich, the district's mainstay incumbent who has held the
office since the early-1980s. Not surprisingly, given the heavily tilted advantage incumbents seem to have these days, especially at the local government level, Kahlon didn't accomplish his immediate goal. But that didn't discourage him from throwing his hat in the 2016 electoral SEE PG. 12

Heart-warming messages to loved ones lost to cancer could be found on candle-lit luminaria bags at the Relay of Life of Rosemead Luminaria Ceremony. Other bags offered support to those currently fighting the disease, or simply depicted colorful drawings of flowers and hearts. The proSEE PG. 13
