Cal Phil Gets Ready for Summer Concert Series at Santa Anita First Concert Will Feature ‘Beatlemania Now’

With just a few weeks to go before opening night on June 27, a crane and workers were finalizing positioning of the massive Hollywood Bowl-type dome Monday evening at Santa Anita’s infield. The dome will be home to the California Philharmonic’s award winning orchestra and Maestro Victor Vener through August 22 when they perform the final concert of the season, “Postcards from Abroad.” The opening concert will surely be a classic, combining revolutionary music from two prolific eras. Adding to the excitement this year, California Philharmonic welcomes special guest Beatlemania Now, the “best tribute band on the planet,” SEE PG. 15

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau detectives responded to a deputy-involved shooting that occurred on North Citrus Avenue near East Alosta Avenue, Azusa, at approximately 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 4. Detectives have learned that San Dimas Station pa-
trol deputies saw a male Hispanic adult brandished a handgun while driving a white Chevy Malibu. Deputies went in a short vehicle pursuit, northbound Citrus Avenue approaching Alosta Avenue, when the suspect stopped his vehicle and exited through the passenger door brandishing a handgun at the deputies. A deputy-involved shooting occurred. The

suspect was struck once by gunfire in the upper torso, however, he fled the location on foot. The deputies went in a short foot pursuit and took the suspect into custody a short distance later. The suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is in stable condition. SEE PG. 16
