AQMD Board Member Explains Clean-Air Programs
BY JOE TAGLIERI The Azusa City Council on Monday learned about state-funded programs designed to improve air quality driven by efforts at the municipal level of government. In a public presentation Michael Cacciotti, a board member of the South Coast Air Quality Management District, detailed several initiatives including lawnmower exchange events, grants for installing infrastructure for electric and alternative-fuel vehicles, an exchange program for commissioning medium- and heavy-duty vehicles that run on alternative fuels and programs that encourage pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure. The lawnmower exchange, scheduled for June 13 in Ontario and June 20 in Arcadia, features electric Greenstation and Black & SEE PG. 12

Duarte to Host Bark for Life and Annual Vaccination Clinic
BY TERRY MILLER Approximately 50 goats from Rancho Tivo Boer Goats will be busy gobbling up over 13 acres of dry brush and vegetation in Duarte next month. “The majority of these areas have not burned in decades,” said City Manager Darrell George. “Our goal is to stop the spread and reduce the overall amount of brush in and around homes adjacent to open spaces in our community. The community is invited to participate in the second annual Bark for Life event, which will be held on Saturday, June 27 from 7:30-10 a.m. at the Duarte Teen Center, 1401 Buena Vista St. The Bark for Life event is a fundraising effort to honor the lifelong contributions of canine caregivers and support the American Cancer Society’s mission of eliminating cancer through research,
education, advocacy and service. Canine caregivers along with canine companions, guide dogs, service dogs, therapy dogs, police dogs, cancer-survivor dogs and diagnostic dogs will come together to celebrate survivorship and honor caregivers lost to cancer.
