AQMD Board Member Explains Clean-Air Programs
BY JOE TAGLIERI The Azusa City Council on Monday learned about state-funded programs designed to improve air quality driven by efforts at the municipal level of government. In a public presentation Michael Cacciotti, a board member of the South Coast Air Quality Management District, detailed several initiatives including lawnmower exchange events, grants for installing infrastructure for electric and alternative-fuel vehicles, an exchange program for commissioning medium- and heavy-duty vehicles that run on alternative fuels and programs that encourage pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure. The lawnmower exchange, scheduled for June 13 in Ontario and June 20 in Arcadia, features electric Greenstation and Black & SEE PG. 12

The Arcadia City Council on Tuesday approved a $55.7 million general fund budget for the upcoming 2015-16 fiscal year that begins July 1. Officials anticipate revenue totaling $59.7 million, enabling $4.5 million in fund transfers toward road and park improvements, SEE PG. 14

Residents in Arcadia received a newsletter from ‘Save the Arcadia Highlands’ group earlier this week attacking some of the city councilmembers’ votes on certain issues with particular regard to the large homes being built in Arcadia. The newsletter’s tone was highly critical of several councilmembers and the financial controversy over a cancelled trip to China &
Taiwan. We contacted councilmembers for comment as well as City Manager, Dominic Lazzaretto. John Wuo was deeply concerned and said this via email: “I am extremely upset, because it is all lies. For instance, we did not receive any money, so how can we
