Five Day Veterans Job Fair Honors the Fallen and Provides Services for the Living With the close of Memorial Day events, one continues with a weeklong event dedicated to honoring the fallen while serving the living. Presented by The Vet Hunters Project, in conjunction with the City of Pomona, the fourth annual “Heroes in the Shadows” San Gabriel Valley Homeless Stand Down kicked off yesterday with more than 400 attendees. The five day event runs through Friday May 29 at the Pomona National Guard Armory located at 600 South Park Avenue in Pomona. On Wednesday, May 27, the event featured a veteran job fair presented by the Employment Development Department. In the morning, seven cars were donated to deserving veterans in need, marking the most amount of vehicles donated by the Vet Hunters in a single day. The Vet Hunters Pro-

Family Festival Productions, Inc. (FFPI) has informed the merchants that are part of Monrovia’s Friday Night Family Street Fair that they have been selected to operate a ‘festival’ on Friday evenings in Arcadia and distributed a flyer this past week notifying vendors. FFPI has run the Friday evening event virtually since its inception in Monrovia. Last fall, the council decided not to renew its contract with Family Festival Productions and instead granted only a sixmonth extension of that agreement and ordered the matter be reviewed after an SEE PG. 17

The ‘Heart Attack Blues’ Doctor Wants to Save Your Life By joe taglieri and terry miller As heart attacks claim more lives each year nationwide than any other cause of death, an Arcadia-based doctor has launched a crusade to increase awareness that he hopes will lead to reduced lag time between the onset of symptoms and applying a key life-saving medical procedure.
