Bob Huff to Run for L.A. County Supervisor, 5th Dist. Standing in front of supporters, Senator Bob Huff Thursday announced his candidacy for Los Angeles County’s 5th Supervisorial District seat that will be vacated when Mike Antonovich retires in 2016. Huff told supporters that “he will put his experience to work by creating good jobs, addressing regional traffic problems, ensuring reliable water supplies and protecting neighborhoods from crime.” Huff said “his experience as a leader in San Gabriel Valley regional government and leader in the state Legislature would allow him to hit the ground running.” Senator Huff noted that “he is already working on legislation to expand L.A. County’s economy by working to bring new manufacturing, entertainment and aerospace jobs here. “ As Supervisor, Huff promised “to personally recruit new employers to the county and continue his ef-

The Life and Wild Times of Pancho Barnes

The Life and Wild Times of Aviatrix Pancho Barnes will be presented on Friday, May 8, 7:00 p.m. at the Duarte Historical Museum, 777 Encanto Parkway, Duarte, by HistorianAuthor Terry Terrell. Pancho Barnes, born in 1901, was the granddaughter of Thaddeus Lowe of Mount Lowe Railway fame. Her extraordinary life is an adventure that is true, but quite unbelievable. She rubbed elbows with Hollywood’s finest, established the Happy Bottom Riding Club in Lancaster, and among her good friends were Buzz Aldrin and Chuck Yeager. Mark

ICE Arrests 87 LA-Area Gang Members and Associates in Nationwide ‘Project Wildfire’ Surge Nearly 1,000 gang members and associates, including 87 individuals from the Southland, were arrested during Project Wildfire, a nationwide six-week operation targeting transnational criminal gangs led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). Project Wildfire, which ran from Feb. 23 to March 31, led to the arrest of individuals tied to more than 40 street gangs in the Los Angeles area, including Barrio Van Nuys, the Eastside Wilmas and 18th Street. Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority Unveils Gold Standard

As part of Earth Month, the Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority Friday held a press conference to highlight the sustainability features built into the 24acre Gold Line Operations Campus. The $265¬million campus, located in the city of Monrovia, was designed and built to meet U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Gold standards, one of the highest levels available. “The Gold Line Operations Campus is one of the only facilities of its kind to meet the Gold Standard,” commented Habib F. I believe we have achieved that goal.” The Gold Line Operations Campus is an integral part of the six-station, 11.5mile Foothill Gold Line light rail project from Pasadena to Azusa currently nearing completion. The full-service, state-of-the-art facility will house up to 84 light rail vehicles and nearly 200 employees over several shifts a day. Features built into the facility will reduce water and electricity consumption, as well as capture 100% of the rainfall from the site and infiltrate it into SEE PG. 7
