San Gabriel Valley Conservation Corps Struggles for Good Cause By Nick Kipley The public comment section of Tuesday night’s meeting of the El Monte City Council was full of supporters of the San Gabriel Valley Conservation Corps, a nonprofit organization whose goal is to help young people thrive. For ten and a half years now, the SGVCC has been providing a valuable learn/work community in which struggling students can earn their diploma, benefit the community, and gain valuable work experience in today’s tough economy. Tony Naranjo, the Volunteer Consultant to the board of directors of the SGVCC, spoke passionately about the organization’s cause. “I like to see that time and effort is invested in our youth because without us

According to Dr. Nazee Rofagha, who has led the last eight years of celebrations in Pasadena, “The mission of Norooz in Pasadena is to familiarize nonIranian communities of Pasadena and the greater San Gabriel Valley with the rich, peaceful and ancient culture of Iran.” While she is not involved in an event this year, we recommend one of the best celebrations which will be at LACMA Sunday. Farhang Foundation, in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), hosts its seventh annual Norooz festival at the museum.
