Monrovia’s Paint ‘n’ Play Offers Unique Free Ceramic Artwork Program for Cancer Patients There aren’t really any words to describe the devastation and destruction one feels when diagnosed with cancer. Cancer becomes the focal point of the person and family. During those traumatic times, it becomes very difficult to find comfort and the simple joy of a fun family outing, without cancer being in the forefront. Just ask dear Aunt Jeannie Yee. Diagnosed in 2008 with Stage 4 (stage before death) nasopharyngeal cancer with tumor migration to the brain, she has struggled intensely with life --physical pain, emotional heartache, spiritual wrestling, and the impact of a cancer crisis on her family of her husband Bill, and SEE PG. 14

“CNA - NO WAY!” was the repeated chant while officials and nurses from California Nurses Association attempted to speak at a press conference called by the CNA last Thursday morning. Scores of nurses, community leaders and union officials quarreled outside Huntington Memorial Hospital Thursday over the 10-month attempt to get nurses at Huntington to vote on unionizing. The confrontations occurred when anti-union employees attempted to quell the voices of the California Nurses Association, which initially called the press conference. Organizers were upset that the anti-union nurses and ancillary staff essentially rained on their parade. “I absolutely do not want or need union representation,” Vandy Uphoff, RN, told Pasa-

TCUSD Honors Dawn Tarin Temple City Unified School District administrators are proud to announce Dawn Tarin has received TCUSD’s 2015 Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) Golden Apple Award. Mrs. Tarin believes there are few things as rewarding as volunteering. When her now 23-yearold daughter entered Kindergarten at Longden Elementary School, there was no question that Dawn would volunteer to act as PTA Room Representative, a position she held at Longden Elementary for the next nine years, ending with her being co-chairman of her son’s sixth grade promotion committee.
