Pasadena City College Courier Celebrates 100th Anniversary The Pasadena City College Courier, one of the oldest studentrun community college newspapers in the state, is celebrating its 100th anniversary this month. From the first black and white newsprint issue released Feb. 4, 1915 - when the college was still a high school - to where it stands today as a weekly publication distributed in both printed and digital formats, the Courier has been an integral part of PCC's long and storied history. "I think it's fantastic that it's not only lasted this long, but it's considered one of the best student newspapers in the state," said Mikki Bolliger, a retired PCC journalism professor who served as advisor to the Courier from 1973 to 2009. “CNA - NO WAY!” was the repeated chant while officials and nurses from California Nurses Association attempted to speak at a press conference called by the CNA last Thursday morning. Scores of nurses, community leaders and union officials quarreled outside Huntington Memorial Hospital Thursday over the 10-month attempt to get nurses at Huntington to vote on unionizing. The confrontations occurred when anti-union employees attempted to quell the voices of the California Nurses Association, which initially called the press conference. Organizers were upset that the anti-union nurses and ancillary staff essentially rained on their parade. “I absolutely do not want or need union representation,” Vandy Uphoff, RN, told Pasa-

In City Hall on Monday night, a group of sixteen nurses from Huntington Hospital gathered before the Mayor, City Council and members of staff in order to voice their gratitude for Councilmember Victor Gordo, Councilmember Terry Torneck and Vice Mayor Jacque Robinson in their support against the crowds of opposition at Huntington Hospital last week. “We want a free and fair election at the hospital.
