Monrovia Reviews Water Policies After Potential Illegal Dumping by susan motander Earlier this week the City of Monrovia issued a press release announcing a review of its policies “to insure water quality and safety.” The release reports that “officials were made aware of alleged unlawful disposal of wastewater at the City’s main water well field” last week and that “one supervisor was placed on paid administrative leave, pending the completion of the review.” Heather Greer, a management analyst in the City Manager’s office, explained the problem. According to Greer, sewage was being pumped out of the septic system at Canyon Park into a truck. The sewage was then properly and legally being emptied at an appropriate facility and the truck was properly SEE PG. 14

“CNA - NO WAY!” was the repeated chant while officials and nurses from California Nurses Association attempted to speak at a press conference called by the CNA last Thursday morning. Scores of nurses, community leaders and union officials quarreled outside Huntington Memorial Hospital Thursday over the 10-month attempt to get nurses at Huntington to vote on unionizing. The confrontations occurred when anti-union employees attempted to quell the voices of the California Nurses Association, which initially called the press conference. Organizers were upset that the anti-union nurses and ancillary staff essentially rained on their parade. “I absolutely do not want or need union representation,” Vandy Uphoff, RN, told Pasa-

Reports from City Manager Oliver Chi and other staff members dominated the Monrovia City Council Meeting on Tuesday evening. Chi commented on the recent city press release about allegedly illegal sewage dumping near the city’s main water well field and responded to requests from the public and council members to explain the grant monies lost by the city in the last several years. The council also approved plans to reorganize its city departments.
