A quick Google Maps search of the term “Massage Parlor” while hovering above the San Gabriel Valley causes several splotches of red dots to appear along the region’s main thoroughfares and highways. Valley Boulevard in El Monte is one of the hotspots for these types of businesses. The trend comes from California Senate Bill 731, which was adopted by state legislature in 2008. Known as the “Massage Therapy Act,” the ruling allows for massage therapists to gain licenses through a nonprofit institution known as the Massage Therapy Organization, while simultaneously deregulating the authority of city and county lawmakers to enact “certain ordinances regulating the practice of massage by a certificate holder, as specified.” So in an attempt to stop the proliferation of massage parlors

EMUHSD Named A State Green Ribbon Nominee

The El Monte Union High School District (EMUHSD) has been selected as one of California’s five nominees to U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools and designated a “Green Achiever” in California Green Ribbon Schools, the complementary state-level program. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson announced the nominees at a ceremony held February 20 at the EMUHSD district office. According to Torlakson, of the over 10,000

The 33rd Annual Black History Parade was celebrated last Saturday with a huge show of community spirit, local leaders and celebrities. Hundreds of people lined Fair Oaks to cheer on such notables as Councilwoman Jacque Robinson, Former State Assemblyman Anthony Portantino, as well as Phillip Sanchez, Pasadena’s Chief of Police who was out in force with his key staff shaking hands with as many people as possible. The community policing such as Chief Sanchez is spearheading was very well-received in the community that has seen a lot of violence in recent months, particularly shootings. Sanchez and the Pasadena PD made it loud and clear that they are here to protect everyone in the community. One
