‘Honey, Did You Leave The Toilet Seat Up Again?’- Caltech Students Address the Time Honored Tradition with Glow-In-Dark Adhesive Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, but it isn’t always paradise between couples, especially when one partner leaves the toilet seat up. That’s why California Institute of Technology (Caltech) students Betty Wong and Alex Pai invented Potty Glo, photoluminescent ultra premium vinyl adhesives that can be placed on the inside of the toilet lid to notify users when the toilet seat is up. “I was sick of falling into the toilet bowl every time my boyfriend would leave the seat up at night,” says Betty Wong, co-creator of Potty Glo and a PhD student in Molecular Neuroscience at the California Institute of Technol-
ogy. “One night, he placed a glow-in-the-dark adhesive on the inside of the toilet seat lid. I loved it and felt like I had to share the idea. Now I think – if lit, then sit, or no glow, no go.” Potty Glo uses a “new generation” photoluminescent mineral (strontium aluminate) that glows brightly for 12+ hours every night. The stickers are non-radioactive, non-toxic, and recharge with just 30 minutes of natural sunlight or artificial lighting. A recent Harvard Medical School study found that at night, certain blue and white night lights throw the body’s biological clock—the circadian rhythm—out of sync. These lights may even contribute
to the causation of cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and obesity. Potty Glo uses a green light, which is not detrimental to your sleep health, and lasts for more than 20 years. “Since we’re graduate students with little income, we’re trying to use crowd source funding to bring this to others,” say Wong and co-creator Alex Pai, who is a PhD student in Electrical Engineering at Caltech. Potty Glo adhesives will come in a variety of designs, including an angler fish, hearts, jellyfish and more. To learn more about PottyGlo, visit: www.pottyglo.com

ald’s” restaurant fire was responsible for setting the fire at the “Tea House”. While canvassing the area, AED detectives and Walnut Station, Special Assignments deputies, developed a potential name for the suspect along with a corresponding vehicle license plate. AED detectives were able to quickly match the suspect’s photo to the suspect depicted in the surveillance photos and provided the information to patrol deputies who began saturating the area. Within 1 hour, patrol deputies located the vehicle and a short pursuit of the vehicle and its driver ensued. The suspect was cornered in a Rowland Heights parking lot where he was detained and transported to Walnut Station where he was interviewed. Suspect admitted to being present at the scene of all the fires; however, he denied setting any of the fires. AED Detectives Harris, Velazquez and Dorris responded to assist Sergeants Hanson and Acevedo with the collection of evidence and documentation of the fire scenes and subsequently recovered evidence in the suspect’s vehicle linking him to the fires. This investigation
and the resulting arrest of 42-year-old David Lin, a transient from West Covina, was a true team effort which resulted in suspect Lin’s identification by several witnesses as the person who set the various businesses on fire. One felony case of arson was filed against David Lin at Pomona Courthouse, with additional cases to follow. He is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail. David Lin is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing on February19, 2015 at the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Pomona Branch in Department N. Parents Urged to Vaccinate Children in Wake of Measles Outbreak State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson today issued the following statement in the wake of continued reports of measles outbreaks nationwide: “I urge parents to get all the recommended vaccinations for their children. Vaccines help students avoid crippling, debilitating, and costly diseases such as measles, mumps, rubella, and chicken pox. They keep students
healthy so they can attend school, learn, and succeed, and they eliminate school disruptions such as those caused by the recent outbreak of measles. “As a science teacher, I have reviewed the science and can tell you the vaccines have been proven safe and effective for those students who are healthy enough to get the immunizations. They keep your child and your community protected.”

2015 Year of the Wooden Goat Continued from Page 1
The Goat. According to the Chinese zodiac, goats are harmonious creatures but be prepared for the typically affable goat to reveal his gruff side this year. The Goat is the eighth sign of the 12-year cycle of animals. Feng Shui is a Chinese philosophical system of harmonizing with the environment. Studying its Feng Shui Index, CLSA says mean-spirited people will be crossing your path, so triple-check emails and contracts to avoid outbursts, or worse, lawsuits. Industries such as autos, electronics, silver and gold will do brilliantly. Even previously lacklustre oil and gas markets will perform well. This auspicious sign makes for a much anticipated and optimistic Lunar New Year, especially related to health and finance. A Local Bank of America branch is offering these New Year tips. Go Green: Since 2015 is the year of the

Green Wooden Goat, green will be a lucky color - enhancing money and wealth. Thinking about painting a new room, redecorating your house or adding color to your wardrobe? Think green. - Set Clear Goals: Whether it is health, financial or personal goals that you have in mind, make sure you are setting clear goals and not just a general one such as “be healthier” or “save more money”. Consider clearer goals such as running three miles at least three times a day, adding one type of fruit or vegetable to your diet, or sit down with a banker to analyze your debt and credit position. - Start Fresh: Lunar New Year represents a fresh new start so clean and cleanse your life in order to increase balance and harmony. Clean your home or office to get rid of negativity that has accumulated during the year. Pay off or make payments to bills and debts as a symbol of positive
action and aim to relieve debt. Start a savings or investment account and begin building your wealth. - Get Lucky: A common tradition during Lunar New year is to give and receive red envelopes containing crisp new bills since it brings good luck. Want to get even luckier? Get your hands on a new $2 dollar bill (even numbers are good luck). Yes, they still print these bills and they are the most common request banks get during Lunar New Year but they go quick, so head to your bank fast! While you’re there, get some red envelopes too – banks give them out as a courtesy to customers. If you would like to speak to one of our branch managers in your area or would like to consider this as a guest column opportunity, please let us know and I’d be more than happy to coordinate. Thank you and I look forward to connecting with you soon.
Taylor & Ring represented Jamie C. against the former Riverside teacher who also held a high position in Alhambra school district, Andrea Cardosa, for the sexual abuse of their client while she attended Chemawa Middle School from 1997 to 2001. At the conclusion of the press conference Jamie C. added the following: “As a child, I looked up to Andrea Cardosa. I trusted her. She made me think that she was my friend, my mentor, and someone who had my best interest at heart. As an adult, I can see now what she has really done to me. Ms. Cardosa played on my innocence and my vulnerability and knew that I was an easy target. As an adult, Ms. Cardosa knew it was wrong but she did it anyway. I’m an adult now, just a few years older than the age Ms. Cardosa was when I first met her. As an adult, I am standing up for my twelve year old self who did not have anyone to fight for her. For that twelve year old child that will be forever lost because you took her away. My twelve year old self never
had a chance. She manipulated and brainwashed me and isolated me from my friends and family. I will never know the childhood I was supposed to have because Ms. Cardosa took that from me. Ms. Cardosa got her hooks in me and wouldn’t let go. Ms. Cardosa made me think that I was getting a life of luxury by giving me things and taking me places but in reality it all came at a price. I paid with my life. A life time of horrible memories of abuse and questions of why that can never be answered. There is no excuse for what Ms. Cardosa did. When I think about my eleven year old stepdaughter and how I would feel if the same thing happened to her and I ask myself, “Would I be okay with her teacher or her coach ‘taking her under their wing’.” As Ms. Cardosa used to say to people about me. My answer is always the same, absolutely not. It is never okay for an adult to betray the trust of a child for any reason. Ms. Cardosa disgusts me. Because of her, I now live in fear for my own children. I fear for them every
day I have to send them to school, with a baby sitter or even church. I fear for them when they are not in my sight because of her. Because I know how easily someone could take away their innocence for their own sick, selfish reasons. I don’t believe Ms. Cardosa when she said that she “regrets it”. I think the only thing she regrets is getting caught. She even lied when she said I was the only one that she did this to. Another victim, Jane Doe 2, came forward and who knows how many others she has scarred and ruined for the rest of their lives. She knew better. She knew exactly what she was doing. And for that, she deserves to be in jail. Ms.Cardosa has sentenced me to a lifetime of pain, mistrust, bad memories, nightmares, and depression. It has been seventeen years that I have had to live with what she has done to me. She should consider herself lucky that her sentence is not as long as the sentence that she gave to me because if it were up to me, she would stay in jail just as long as I have to endure the hurt that she has caused me.”
Man Sentenced to 13 Years in Prison for Fatal DUI in Alhambra A 51-year-old man convicted of killing one of his passenger’s while driving under the influence of alcohol was sentenced today to 13 years in state prison, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced. Jacob Garcia Jr. of Pomona pleaded no contest on Nov. 6, 2014, to one felony count of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated in case GA082043. At lats week’s sentencing, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Cathryn
F. Brougham also ordered the defendant to pay restitution in the amount of $8,377.64 to the victim’s family. Deputy District Attorney Kevin Keeland, who prosecuted the case, said in the early morning of Dec. 16, 2010, Garcia was driving under the influence of alcohol on the 10 Freeway during a rainstorm. There were five passengers in the car, including the victim, Maria Faith Soloman, 21. At some point, Garcia hydroplaned and crashed into the back
of a tractor located in a freeway construction area, the prosecutor said. Soloman died from her injuries, while two other passengers sustained trauma from the car wreck. Soon after the collision, authorities arrived and arrested Garcia. It was determined after the crash that Garcia had a blood alcohol level of .08%, the prosecutor added. The case was investigated by the California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same Lender may hold more than one mortgage or Deed of Trust on the property. Notice to Property Owner The sale date shown on this Notice of Sale may be postponed one or more times by the Mortgagee, Beneficiary, Trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about Trustee Sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale.
