A 20-year-old man pleaded guilty today to molesting six children from an El Monte school, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced. Johnny Beserra, 21,of El Monte pleaded guilty to six charges: two counts of continuous sexual abuse, and one count each of forcible oral copulation when the victim is under 14 years old, lewd act upon a child, child molesting and possession of child pornography in case KA106015. Beserra is scheduled to be sentenced March 2 at the Los Angeles County Superior Court in Pomona, Department H. Under the terms of the negotiated plea, the defen-
dant is expected to be sentenced to 30 years to life in state prison. Additionally, Beserra will have to register as a sex offender for life. Deputy District Attorney Michael Matoba, who prosecuted the case, said Beserra was a school volunteer at El Monte Christian Academy in the city of El Monte. The reported crimes occurred between August 2010 and May 2014 and included six victims between the ages of 7 and 17 when the crimes took place, the prosecutor said. Also, some of the incidents transpired at the school, the prosecutor added. The case was investigated by the El Monte Police Department.

Former Irwindale Cop Gets 2 Years Prison for Sexual Molestation of Teen A former Irwindale Police Department officer was sentenced today to two years, eight months in state prison and ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life after he earlier admitted that he sexually molested a 14-year-old girl, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced. Daniel Camerano, 28, was remanded into custody to begin his sentence. Deputy District Attorney Renee Chang with the Justice System Integrity Division prosecuted the case. Camerano, who was an advisor to the department’s Explorer Program, began a sexual relation-
Armenian Criminal Enterprise Dealt Serious Blow
Cooperative Law Enforcement Effort Was Key
In May 2008, a massive shootout between Armenian Power and another California gang on the streets of North Hollywood ended with the deaths of two rival gang members. And while local law enforcement and the FBI already had Armenian Power on their radar, this deadly firefight on the streets of a major American city raised the group’s profile—and resulted in efforts by the FBI and its partners to go after Armenian Power and its leadership through federal racketeering statutes. The investigation revealed that this street gang was actually an international organized criminal enterprise whose illegal ac-
tivities ranged from bank fraud and identity theft to violent extortion and kidnappings. It also revealed that this enterprise victimized its own Armenian community in California. By 2011, we had enough
evidence to charge 90 Armenian Power leaders, members, and associates in two separate indictments. Of those 90 charged, 87 have been convicted, including one of the enterprise’s primary leaders—

Zermatt Switzerland Celebrates 150 Years of Matterhorn Magic By Greg Aragon This year marks an exciting anniversary in Zermatt, Switzerland. It has been 150 years since the first climber made it to the summit of the Matterhorn, the iconic mountain that towers above the small alpine town. To celebrate this milestone, the city is hosting a series of events and festivals to showcase its Swiss history and culture. And if all goes as planned, I will be there sometime this summer to partake. The memorable ascent happened on July 14, 1865, when British climber Edward Whymper and his rope team became the first people to reach the 14,692ft peak of the Matterhorn. With the ascent, the team brought fame to the previously little-known Matterhorn and to the village of Zermatt, which was at the time was known for agriculture. Since Whymper’s climb, Zermatt has become a European paradise for skiing in winter and hiking and biking in summer. The city is located in the Swiss Alps, at the foot of the Matterhorn, in the
German-speaking canton of Valais in southern Switzerland. The eco-friendly town, which sits at an elevation of 5,310 ft, is “auto-free” so the only way to get there is by cog railway train or taxi from the nearby village of Tasch. Trains also depart for Zermatt from further down the valley at Visp and Brig, which are connected to the Swiss rail network. Once in the village visitors can find numerous taxis and buses (all battery-powered) or horse-drawn sleighs to take them to their hotels or ski resorts. And speaking of hotels, Zermatt has no shortage of great ones. For my upcoming visit I am looking into a few of them, including the Riffelalp Resort (www.riffelalp.com) and the Grand Hotel Zermatterhof (www.zermatterhof.ch). The five-star Riffelalp Resort Lies 7,300 ft above sea level on the southern edge of a plateau in the heart of the Gornergrat Skiing and Hiking district. Bordering a stone pine forest, the location offers a unique alpine panorama directly facing the Matterhorn. The

70-room hotel offers skiing, hiking and mountain biking just outside its doorstep and boasts Europe’s highest outdoor pool, located at the St. Trop Alp spa. Other highlights include gourmet eateries such as Restaurant Alexander, The Ristorante Al Bosco with its sunny garden terrace, and the Mark Twain Lounge. To get to the Riffelalp, guests are transported from Zermatt via the Gornergrat railway, which takes about 20 minutes and yields incredible views of the Swiss Alps. During summer the
hotel’s private tram (Europe’s highest) takes guests through the wonderfully fragrant stone pine forest from Riffelalp station to the Resort. Down the mountain from the Riffelalp is The Grand Hotel Zermatterhof, which has been welcoming guests from all over the world since 1879. The hotel was built “for living, not just sleeping” reads its website. It boasts an array of luxurious rooms and suites in the heart of the village, and offers guests a full-service spa, access to nearby ski and
hiking trails, and top-notch restaurants and bars, including the Prato Borni, where authentic and delicious Alpine cuisine is served by legendary Executive Chef Ralph Busch. Once checked into my hotel, I can investigate Zermatt. Highlights on my list include hiking around the Matterhorn and a ride on the Gornergrat cog railway which winds its way up the mountain to an altitude of 10134 ft. I am also planning a visit to the Matterhorn Museum, which houses the
equipment used during Whymper’s first ascent of the mountain; a visit to Glacier Paradise / Klein Matterhorn, the highest place in Europe (12739 ft) able to be reached by a cableway, with a viewing platform and the highest glacier palace in the world; and a walk through Gorner gorge, a footpath across narrow bridges made of rope and wood above a deeply scarped gorge. Gold Line Maintenance & Operations Yard Nears Completion in Monrovia By susan motander For months workers have been swarming over the construction site along Evergreen Avenue between California and Shamrock. Huge buildings have risen and nearly six miles of rail track have been laid on the 26 acres site. Slowly the Gold Line’s $265 million Construction and Maintenance Yard is coming to life. The site will provide storage space for as many as 84 light rail vehicles when they are not in use. In addition, the facility will also contain the cleaning and repair facilities for the cars. There is even a gigantic “car wash;” it is like Fashing’s on steroids with the ability to wash an entire train at once. Mark Mickelson, the segment manager coordinating the construction of the site, dubbed the largest building “The Mall of Shops,” noting that it housed separate bays for the
different types of work being done to keep the vehicles in good running order. There is even a $3 million lathe used to true the wheels on the vehicles (oval wheels lead to a bumpy ride). In this building the cars can be run in on tracks at ground level, but the tracks are on trestle-like bridges over some of the work areas so the maintenance staff can work on the undercarriage including the wheels without removing the body or chassis. IT is amazing. The 130,000 square foot building also houses the offices and the locker rooms for both the operations staff (those who run the trains) and the maintenance staff (those who keep the trains running). More than 175 people will work out of this facility (the EIR allowed for 191) with more than half working to maintain the cars. They will work three

shifts a day every day. At the very top of this large building is the Yard Control Room. From this room, one person will control the movement of all the light rail vehicles at the facility. And the view is spectacular. Set more than three
stories above the ground it has windows overlooking the entire yard and beyond, over the freeway and to the foothills. One wonders how the operators will be able to stay focused on the yard with such a vista. The Gold Line tracks in
this area run along the north side of Duarte Road. The trains will enter the facility near the end of Shamrock and exit the same way. The interiors will be cleaned out at what looks like a station in the center of the yard and then will move through the car wash barn. They will then be directed back to operation, to the storage area in the tracks along the north side of the yard, or to the shops in the “Mall” if repairs are necessary. One nice detail for train watchers, there will even be viewing area. There is a small park planned for the northwest corner of facility at California and Evergreen, from which the public can view the yard operations. According to Lisa Levy Buch of the Gold Line Construction Authority, the park will be planted with drought tolerant plants, oak trees and other ornamental
shade trees. There will even be benches and a decorative fence with a California poppy motif (the accent color in the yard is “poppy.” of course). Even the walkways will have a light sprinkling of orange speckles. Boulders removed from the site during construction will be used in landscaping this area. There will even be landscaping all around the facility. The construction authority and the city of Monrovia are in the process of identifying the plants to be used and how they will be maintained. One last note: one cannot help but notice the large, 600,000 gallon, tank in the middle of the yard. Relax, the vehicles are electric; the tank will contain only water to be used in the event of a fire emergency if the city water supply is not available. And of course, the tank is “poppy” colored.

State Treasurer John Chiang hasannounced the suspension of administrative fees for the Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) Loss Reserve Program, which allows California homeowners to finance energy and water efficiency projects through property assessment payments over a five-, 10- or 20-year period. “This popular program enables homeowners to finance energy-efficient windows, heating and air-conditioning systems, solar power and water conservation measures,” Chiang said. “I hope that by cutting fees we will make it more affordable for more Californians to make green investments in their own homes.”
The program, which currently supports $350 million of PACE financing, is part of the State’s larger efforts to promote California-based jobs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions while limiting air and water pollution. The fees were cut when the California Alternative Energy and Advanced Transportation Financing Authority (CAEATFA), chaired by Chiang, adopted emergency regulations at a meeting Tuesday in Sacramento.

Mher Darbinyan—who was recently sentenced to 32 years in prison. (Of the three remaining indicted individuals, prosecutors dropped the charges against one, and the other two are currently fugitives.) According to Agent Jeremy Stebbins, who worked the case out of our Los Angeles Office, “With the arrests and convictions of nearly all senior leadership of Armenian Power, we dealt a serious blow to their ability to continue to operate in the manner they were accustomed. We also sent a message to the Eurasian organized crime community that they are being targeted and watched.” Armenian Power leadership was based in California, but the group’s operations—particularly its fraud schemes—involved the use of phony businesses located in cities throughout the United States. And Armenian Power leaders had dealings with organized crime figures in places like
Armenia and Russia. Law enforcement was also able to uncover ties between Armenian Power and the Mexican Mafia, the prison gang that controls much of the narcotics distribution and other criminal activity within California’s correctional facilities. The Mexican Mafia would protect Armenian Power members and associates who were behind bars, while Armenian Power members and associates on the outside would help facilitate Mexican Mafia criminal activities. During the course of the investigation, we rescued a kidnapped victim and were able to charge several additional subjects with kidnapping, extortion, and other violent crimes. We also seized more than $3 million in fraudulently obtained luxury automobiles. And we interfered in several violent confrontations between rival groups, arresting more gang members and seizing firearms.
Court-authorized wiretaps on 25 different phone numbers were a key part of the case. Through these conversations, we were able to obtain a wealth of incriminating evidence as defendants spoke about targeting wealthy Armenians for robbery, planning check fraud activity, making illegal firearms deals, installing skimmers on ATMs, watering illegal marijuana plants in a warehouse, mailing illegal narcotics to customers, planning kidnappings, and extorting money from victims using threats of violence. This complicated and multi-subject case was investigated by the Eurasian Organized Crime Task Force, led by the Bureau’s Los Angeles Division and the Glendale Police Department. Other vital task force members include several local California police and sheriff’s departments and a number of federal agencies

Missing these days at the WayStation are the visitors and groups of children visiting from the LA area School Districts as part of the WayStation’s educational programs. Getting them back is the purpose of the Wayke Up campaign. Says Wayke Up hostess, actress-singer Nikki Reed (“Twilight”): “The campaign’s purpose is to raise money to renew the WayStation’s Conditional Use Permit (CUP) which has expired. The Permit allows the WayStation to be open for visitors and continue the all-important educational outreach programs that can inspire the next generation of children to protect our wildlife and the environment. PRESCRIBING FOR SLEEP APNEA? YOUR DME COMPANY LETTING YOU DOWN? If you’re frustrated with your DME provider, find out why thousands of physicians prefer “Classic”
Why Classic?
We relieve you from the burden of answering day-to-day equipment issues.
“Sleep” is our specialty. That’s right, no oxygen, scooters, wheelchairs, beds or other DME. We supply only PAP equipment and related replenishment supplies. This allows us to be real experts in what we do and to concentrate on delivering the patient care that matters. The fact we serve more than 18,000 patients over 18 states and are growing rapidly is testament to our focus and commitment to delivering timely setup and having happy and compliant patients.
able to continue to collect usage data.
Compliance through great patient care
When calling patients we use data generated from our proprietary Download on Demand® software. This takes the raw data streams from patient’s modems, parses the data to produce compliance reports containing key data points and a graph that our clinicians use so that they can have an intelligent conversation with the patient based on that patient’s actual use of their equipment. Of course patients can (and do!) call in to our patient care center for help and advice from our clinicians at any time.
is what really sets us apart from the pack. Our licensed respiratory professionals (respiratory therapists and registered sleep techs) work with patients from the time of setup and throughout their therapy with one goal in mind…to ensure they quickly adapt to their therapy and stay compliant over time.
Our CPAP Circle of Care® program
was carefully designed to achieve this. The first step of the program is for one of our licensed respiratory therapists to complete the setup faceto-face with the patient, either in their home or their doctor’s office, usually within 72 hours of approval. Our R/T will set the machine to the prescription and then educate the patient on its use, care and maintenance. And educate the patient on what to expect over the first days and weeks of their therapy. We set up all patients on the highest quality machines fitted with wireless modems (regardless of insurance). And we leave the modems on the machine indefinitely so as to be
Interested in learning more? www.classicsleepcare.com
After setup patients are passed to our patient care center for ongoing compliance care. Our licensed clinicians make outgoing calls at 72 hours, 30 days and 90 days after setup to interdict any problems patients may be having. A field R/T will make a re-visit to a patient in their home where a problem cannot be resolved over the phone.
Download on Demand® - Driving Compliance
Our goal is to have happy, compliant patients while taking the brunt of the every-day questions patients invariably have. This relieves the burden from our referring physician’s offices who otherwise have to deal with this call volume, and depending on the experience of the doctor in this field, may not be able to answer typical questions the patient has regarding equipment issues (e.g. how to fix a leaking mask).
Skeptical?
So you’ve heard it all before? All the DME’s brag that they’re the best and have a great compliance and supply replenishment program.... everybody talks the talk...so who do you believe? Your patients...that’s who! We’ll prove it to you. Send us two or three patients and then ask your patients about the care they received and their opinion of the process... then compare the results to your existing DME provider. Talk to your staff about the interaction they have with our office. Look at our documentation. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale.
