or months workers have been swarming over the construction site along Evergreen Avenue between California and Shamrock. Huge buildings
have risen and nearly six miles of rail track have been laid on the 26-acre site. Slowly the Gold Line’s $265 million Construction and Maintenance Yard is coming to life.

Monrovia's Station Square Taking Shape BY SUSAN MOTANDER
Station Square, Monrovia’s ambitious public works project at the new Gold Line Station is on budget and moving quickly forward according to Tina Cherry, the city’s Acting Director of Public Works. The $25 million project will include a park, a promenade around the Historic Santa Fe Depot, and a Transit Plaza. In addition improvements are being made in the area around the station to facilitate the use of the square and the Gold Line Station. “We have had a few rain delays,” Cherry said of the overall project, but explained that the contractor was adding additional staffing to “catch up.” She said that most of the work being done now was “not the flashy stuff.” She explained that the underground utilities were being put in place and the site was being graded. “Sometime in March, the above ground work will start on site,” Cherry explained, adding, “The final touches will happen quickly toward the end.
