Parents go to great lengths to shield their children from life’s bumps and bruises, but even the best bicycle helmets and baby gates can’t ward off a hazard that has surfaced in recent years. Identity theft is a threat many moms and dads don’t know how to protect against. “Identity theft is at an all-time high, and criminals are targeting children more aggressively than ever,” said Mike Sullivan, director of education for Take Charge America, a national nonprofit credit counseling and debt management agency. “Their credit history is clean, and most parents don’t even think to check their kids’ credit reports, so it’s easy for criminals to do serious damage over a long period of time.” Sullivan offers five tips Please see page 4
conference. Miller said Tiffani Lowden, 38, of Whittier, Calif., turned herself into the South Pasadena Police station about 10:30 p.m. Monday on the urging of a family member. Lowden admitted to being the person wanted for the hit-and-run, Miller said, but later invoked her right to have an attorney present and ceased answering questions, Miller said. The vehicle was found abandoned in Los Angeles. The accident occurred Sunday night at about 7:30 p.m. as Bryan Hollon, 40, and his wife, Alexandra (Ali), 30, joined by their 4-month old infant in a harness-carrier on her mom’s chest, and their dog, a 7-1/2-year-old Boston Terrier named LaBell, were on an evening walk. As they entered the crosswalk at the intersection of Orange Grove Avenue and Columbia Street, the suspect, driving a newer model,
Ali Hollon, who sustained a broken nose, told local media “We both landed on the hood of the car, and then it started to slow down and then it accelerated.” Hollon’s daughter sustained two skull fractures. Both were released from the hospital Monday.

My Favorite Getaways of 2014
Citrus College Named Among the FastestGrowing Community Colleges in the U.S. Citrus College is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the nation, according to a recent Community College Week report. The college ranked fifth among U.S. community colleges with enrollments of 10,000 or more, according to 2012 and 2013 records. Nearly 13,000 students attended Citrus College in 2013, a 10 percent increase over the previous year. “This wonderful recognition reflects the hard work of the dedicated Citrus College faculty and staff who contribute to a learning environment that attracts students to the college,” said Citrus College Superintendent/President Geraldine M. Perri, Ph.D. “As we observe our Centennial, we can reflect on the college’s many achievements and the important fact that these successes have fueled our growth.” Citrus College’s latest accolade is supported by an array of highly suc-
cessful academic programs and student support services that have attracted more students to the institution. In addition to being included among the nation’s fastest growing community colleges, Citrus College is also a consistent presence on Community College Week’s “Top 100 Associate Degree Producers” lists. In June 2014, the college awarded 2,119 associate degrees at its June 2014 Commencement, an alltime record for the fourth consecutive year. And, since 2011, the college’s nationally-acclaimed Veteran’s Program has received G.I. Jobs magazine’s Military Friendly School® designation. Most recently, Citrus College’s STEM Program (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) was selected as a STEM JobsSM Approved College for 2015 by Victory Media. In September, the college’s Career/Technical Education Program was recognized by Career/ PayScale, Inc. as one of
the nation’s top 10 public two-year colleges based on alumni earning potential; the institution ranked fifth among California’s 112 community colleges in this category. At the state level, Citrus College is third among the California community colleges in the number of Associate Degrees for Transfer awarded. Locally, the institution’s outstanding reputation was confirmed last spring when it was voted the “Best Community College” in the San Gabriel Valley Newsgroup’s annual “Readers Choice” poll. “This new accomplishment is wonderful news for the community members served by Citrus College,” said Mrs. Joanne Montgomery, president of the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees. “As students, faculty, and staff look forward to the holiday season, I hope the college’s newest national honor adds to their pride in Citrus College.”

The New Year is once again upon us and that means it’s time to look ahead to new and exciting adventures for Greg’s Getaway in 2015. But before I do this, I would like to look back on a great 2014, and on a couple of my favorite getaways from the past year. After reviewing hundreds of pictures and memories from 2014, I painstakingly narrowed things down to an “Escape to Morro Bay,” a weekend aboard a houseboat near Hoover Dam, and a night aboard the historic Queen Mary ocean liner in Long Beach. Outlined by an iconic, 576 ft-tall rock mountain sitting in its harbor, Morro Bay is a hidden gem along California’s Central coast, halfway between LA and San Francisco. A friend and I escaped to Morro Bay in May for a couple memorable nights. The getaway began at family-owned Anderson Inn (www.andersoninnmorrobay.com), a contemporary boutique hotel on the waterfront, overlooking the bay and the rock. Inspired by the natural elements of sand, sea, and sky, the inn is elegant, yet unpretentious, with a comfortable, casual feel. A highlight of our stay at Anderson Inn was sitting on the balcony watching playful harbor seals swim below us, while small sail boats drifted past, beneath the shadow of the great rock. When we weren’t enjoying the scenery from our balcony, we were exploring it on foot. We loved strolling along the Embarcadero and visiting
its many shops and having breakfast at Dorn’s Breakers Cafe (www.dornscafe. com), which has been a local institution since 1942. Other highlights included exploring the coastline by kayak with Kayak Horizons (www.kayakhorizons.com). Morro Bay’s coast offers 15 miles of protected waters, which is home to an estuary and bird sanctuary, 2,300 acres of mud flats, eelgrass beds, tidal wetlands, sea lions, harbor seals and sea otters. For more information on visiting Morro Bay, visit www.morrobay.org. Another great getaway from the past year happened in June when I spent a weekend aboard a houseboat on Lake Mohave. The excursion began at a place called Owl Point Cove, about 20 miles down the Colorado River from the base of Hoover Dam. Stretching 70 ft-long, the two-story houseboat boasted 4 bedroom cabins, a full kitchen and dining room, and a sports deck with wet bar, barbecue, Jacuzzi and waterslide. It also came with a jet ski tied alongside. We rented the boat from Forever Houseboats (www.foreverhouseboats.com), which has a fleet of them in marina’s throughout California and Nevada. Once settled in, I enjoyed going down the boat’s waterslide into the cool water of Lake Mohave, hiking in the rocky hills above the 28,260-acre lake, barbecuing with fellow passengers on the sand behind the ship, lounging in the Jacuzzi on the top deck, and zipping across the water on the provided
jet ski. From a cozy houseboat I went to one of the most famous ships the world has ever known. In November I stayed aboard the legendary Queen Mary (www.queenmary.com) in Long Beach. My getaway began at the ship’s popular Sunday brunch and ended after a wonderful night in an historic cabin overlooking Long Beach. As one of Southern California’s best brunches, the Queen’s Sunday affair is a nautical-themed feast that takes guests on a worldwide culinary adventure with more than 50 unique dishes from around the globe. After experiencing the brunch, I checked into a comfortable cabin aboard the 1930s vessel. Located near the stern, the room oozed and featured original artwork from the 1,019-ft-long ship’s heyday, as well as authentic Art Deco details, original wood paneling from all over the world and a porthole window overlooking the city. Since she first hit the water in 1936, in Southampton, England, the ship was an instant star and set a new standard in transatlantic travel. While taking a behind-the-scenes tour of the ship, I learned about her glory days on the high seas. She began her tenure as the ocean’s most royal liner, carrying Hollywood celebrities like Bob Hope and Clark Gable, royalty like the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, and dignitaries like Winston Churchill. And during WWII, she carried Allied troops and had a bounty put on her by Nazi Germany.

Clear Channel Outdoor (CCO) today announced that for the 7th consecutive year, it is partnering with the Ad Council on a campaign to combat drunk driving during the holiday season. The campaign messages are up now and will run through the New Year. The PSAs will be featured on CCO’s billboards throughout Los Angeles in an effort to educate motorists that consuming even a few drinks can impair driving and that the physical and financial consequences of buzzed driving can be devastating. “The holiday season should be one of the most joyous times of year – but it can also be one of the most dangerous times to be on road, making it even more critical that we reach folks when and where it matters to remind them of the risks and consequences of impaired driving,” said Layne Lawson, director of public affairs for Clear Channel Outdoor. To support the effort, CCO is donating space on its traditional billboards throughout the Los Angeles area, warning motorists across the region of the dangers inherent in buzzed driving. The company will also expand the campaign to its digital billboards on New Year’s Eve in an effort to increase exposure to the message as the holiday has historically brought an unfortunate increase in drunk driving occurrences. The use of billboards for the campaign ensures that the messages reach the most important audience, as they are delivered directly to those who are on the road. “We are proud to once again partner with the Ad Council to bring this important message to Angelenos and travelers during the holiday season and to do our part to help keep our roadways safe,” Lawson added.
CCO routinely partners with the Ad Council on efforts like this to ensure its resources are used to benefit the public. CCO’s digital billboards are also regularly used to relay critical public safety information during emergency circumstances; this includes AMBER alerts for child abductions, FBI Most Wanted notices, and messaging from local police and fire departments. The boards were deployed earlier this fall in partnership with the Coalition to Abolish Slavery & Trafficking (CAST), Polaris, and regional and local elected officials to launch an anti-trafficking aware-
ness campaign still running on billboards throughout Los Angeles County. CCO also partnered with the Southern California Water Committee (SCWC) this summer to launch a drought awareness and conservation campaign featuring @Lawn_Dude. The unique ability of digital
signs to reach a wide audience while displaying messages in real-time allows them to act as valuable resources for non-profit organizations, public safety agencies, law enforcement, and a variety of others who need to effectively relay messages to the public.

for parents to safeguard their kids from identity theft: -Protect kids’ Social Security numbers: Parents should store kids’ cards in a safe and hidden place, and think twice before giving out their child’s number. Health care providers may need this information, but is it necessary for Little League or a library card, or are there other options for identification? -Pay attention to their online activity: Kids surfing the web or checking email or social accounts may unwittingly click on links or download content from unknown sources, putting sensitive information at risk. Parents can teach their kids appropriate online conduct and utilize an array of tools that help protect them online. -Protect financial accounts: Many parents open savings accounts for their children, but they must be careful to keep financial
statements private, ensure accounts can’t be accessed without their approval, and opt out of any marketing to avoid credit card offers in their children’s names. To opt out of credit card offers for five years, call 1-888-5-OPTOUT (567-8688) or visit optoutprescreen.com. -Understand warning signs: Parents who receive credit card offers in their kid’s name should be wary, as this may mean their identity has been compromised. Other signs include denial of a bank account or driver’s license, or collection calls or bills addressed to a child. -Check your child’s credit: Parents who believe their child is at risk for identity theft should request a credit report from Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. The process for requesting a report on behalf of a child is different for each credit bureau. The steps and required documentation can be found
on their respective websites. If a child’s identity has been stolen, parents should immediately file a police report, contact the Federal Trade Commission at 877-ID-THEFT (438-4338) and place a fraud alert on the child’s file with all three credit reporting companies. Santa Claus made an appearance at the Brooklyn Avenue Early Education Center in East Los Angeles on Tuesday, December 16, 2014, and handed out toys to over 150 excited boys and girls. Sheriff McDonnell, Securitas Security Services USA, Inc. representatives, and retired Deputy Sheriff Charles “Bobby” Beals (who volunteered to play “Santa Claus” for his 51st consecutive year) handed out toys to delighted boys and girls who attend the education center. Sheriff Jim McDonnell, Securitas Security Services USA, Inc.; Captain Maria Gutierrez of Century Regional Detention Facility; Commander Henry Romero, Countywide Services; Captain Steven Biagini of East Los Angeles Station; and Assistant Director Adrianne Ferree of the Jail Enterprises Unit joined Santa Claus at the event and helped pass out the toys. The children received two kinds of toys at the event: A handcrafted, original toy, handmade by male and female inmates of the Los Angeles County Jail system; and a handpicked toy, personally chosen by Secu-
ritas Security Services USA, Inc. staff, specifically for this event. The handmade toys consisted of dolls for the little girls, with hand-sewn faces and hair, and individuallystyled dresses, made by female inmates at the Century Regional Detention Facility; and wooden toys for the little boys, constructed and handpainted in three-dimensional cars, trucks and helicopters by male inmates at the Pitchess Detention Center. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Toy Program began over 54 years ago as a work project for women in the Los Angeles County Jail system, in an effort to bring joy to underprivileged children during the holiday season, and
remains a tradition today. Thanks to the generous donations of materials by community members and Department personnel to create them, 1,000 cloth dolls and approximately 100 wooden toys were made. The remaining dolls and wooden toys crafted by the inmates are distributed to underprivileged or physically-challenged children throughout Los Angeles County. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department extends sincere appreciation to Securitas Security Services USA, Inc. for their continued support. They generously donated over 150 toys to these children, who depend on donations for the only gift they may receive this holiday season.

This takes the raw data streams from patient’s modems, parses the data to produce compliance reports containing key data points and a graph that our clinicians use so that they can have an intelligent conversation with the patient based on that patient’s actual use of their equipment. Of course patients can (and do!) call in to our patient care center for help and advice from our clinicians at any time.
is what really sets us apart from the pack. Our licensed respiratory professionals (respiratory therapists and registered sleep techs) work with patients from the time of setup and throughout their therapy with one goal in mind…to ensure they quickly adapt to their therapy and stay compliant over time.
Our CPAP Circle of Care® program
was carefully designed to achieve this. The first step of the program is for one of our licensed respiratory therapists to complete the setup faceto-face with the patient, either in their home or their doctor’s office, usually within 72 hours of approval. Our R/T will set the machine to the prescription and then educate the patient on its use, care and maintenance. And educate the patient on what to expect over the first days and weeks of their therapy. We set up all patients on the highest quality machines fitted with wireless modems (regardless of insurance). And we leave the modems on the machine indefinitely so as to be

After setup patients are passed to our patient care center for ongoing compliance care. Our licensed clinicians make outgoing calls at 72 hours, 30 days and 90 days after setup to interdict any problems patients may be having. A field R/T will make a re-visit to a patient in their home where a problem cannot be resolved over the phone.
Download on Demand® - Driving Compliance
Our goal is to have happy, compliant patients while taking the brunt of the every-day questions patients invariably have. This relieves the burden from our referring physician’s offices who otherwise have to deal with this call volume, and depending on the experience of the doctor in this field, may not be able to answer typical questions the patient has regarding equipment issues (e.g. how to fix a leaking mask).
Skeptical?
So you’ve heard it all before? All the DME’s brag that they’re the best and have a great compliance and supply replenishment program.... everybody talks the talk...so who do you believe? Your patients...that’s who! We’ll prove it to you. Send us two or three patients and then ask your patients about the care they received and their opinion of the process... then compare the results to your existing DME provider. Talk to your staff about the interaction they have with our office. Look at our documentation. Reach out to Bill Kleiman (contact info below) to set up an inservice over lunch with your staff to go over our program and answer any questionvs you may have.

The prescribing doctor receives documentation by eFax (or electronically via EMR system integration), starting with confirmation of receipt of the referral through every touch we have with the patient. This includes a copy of the 2-page compliance reports containing our Download on Demand® data and a copy of the notes made by our clinician during a call. Our proprietary systems automate the flow of documentation keeping referring doctors completely informed about their patients’ progress and ensure physicians have the documentation they need for follow-up consultations with their patients.

Pursuant to a resolution entitled ``A Resolution Declaring Intention to Finance or Refinance the Installation of Dis-tributed Generation Renewable Energy Sources, Energy Efficiency Improvements, Water Efficiency Improvements, Seismic Strength-ening Improvements, Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure and Other Work, Infrastructure or Improvements Authorized by Law,`` adopted on December 12, 2014 (the ``Resolution of Intention``), the Board of Directors (the ``Board of Directors``) of the California Municipal Finance Authority (the ``Authority``) has determined that it would be convenient, advantageous, and in the public interest to designate an area, which shall encompass the entire geographic territory within the boundaries of every California county and city that is a member of the Authority (collectively, the ``Covered Jurisdictions``), within which the Authority and property owners within the Covered Jurisdictions may enter into contractual assessments to finance or refinance the installation of distributed generation renewable energy sources, energy efficiency improvements, water efficiency improvements, seismic strengthening improvements, electric vehicle charging infrastructure and such other work, infrastructure or improvements as may be authorized by law from time to time that are permanently fixed to real property, all in accordance with Chapter 29 of Part 3 of Division 7 of the Streets & Highways Code of the State of California, as amended (``Chapter 29``) (the ``Authorized Improve-ments``).
