Glendale Water & Power Celebrates One Hundred Years Of Reliable Water Service During the Tuesday, September 30th meeting, the Glendale City Council presented the Mayor’s Proclamation to Glendale Water & Power to mark their centennial of providing water and service to the City. A proclamation was also presented by Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich’s office and a plaque from the American Water Works Association to recognize this major milestone in GWP’s history. Glendale’s Municipal Water System began its operation in July 1914. Due to inadequate water service, undersized water mains, insufficient reservoirs, lack of a circulation

system, and the pollution problems, the citizens of Glendale elected eleven committee members, known as the Water Commission, to study these issues and make recommendations to the Board of Trustees of the City. The Railroad Commission evaluated the water systems in Glendale and recommended that the Board of Trustees provide funds for the purchase and improvements of a reliable water system to serve Glendale’s population of 14,000 people. A $248,000 bond was issued to purchase private water companies serving the community in order to make improvements
necessary to establish a utility. Today, one hundred years later, GWP provides nine billion gallons of safe drinking water to the City’s 196,000 citizens. Inaugural Laugh for Life slated Oct 25 Women’s Pregnancy Care Clinic (WPCC), a new Pasadena nonprofit helping women facing an unplanned pregnancy with medical services and support, is hosting its inaugural laugh for life October 25. The show, featuring ‘Clean Comedians’, whose motto is “It doesn’t have to be dirty to be funny”, will feature the physical comedy of Cary Trivanovich, Kathy Westfield’s inspirational humor, urban edgy comedy from Gilbert Esquivel and magical illusions from host Adam Christing.
