Health Detective: Can you help solve an L.A. medical mystery? An untraditional approach to medical diagnosis is helping solve LA’s most difficult medical mysteries. Popularized by a California startup called CrowdMed [www. crowdmed.com], hundreds of online community members -- including retired physicians, medical students, recovering patients, and interested researchers -- are placing online “bets” on the most likely solutions for patients with hard-to-diagnose medical cases. For any LA resident who has ever bounced from specialist to specialist for years -getting dissatisfying or incomplete answers about their health problems while spending a small fortune -- the CrowdMed system is nothing short of miraculous.
