30 years in the making; Monrovia Council breaks ceremonial ground for Station Square Transit Village BY SUSAN MOTANDER On Wednesday the ceremonial groundbreaking was held for the new transit complex in Monrovia. Station Square will serve as an entrance to the city from the Gold Line Station in Monrovia. The facility is being built just north of Duarte Road, to the east of Myrtle Avenue. The improvements being installed by the city include a large plaza with information panels, a pedestrian “promenade”, a green belt and a much-needed park. The Station Square project is the largest public works project the city has ever undertaken according to Mayor Mary Ann Lutz. The budget for it is approximately $25 million. Lutz explained that the funding for the project was coming from Federal and State Grants, money from the Gold Line Construction Please see page 6
