SANTA ANITA PARK SEEKING BREEDERS’ CUP VOLUNTEERS; Great Race Place to Host Two Day World Championships on Oct. 31 & Nov. 1 Santa Anita Park, which will host the Breeders’ Cup World Championships for an unprecedented third consecutive year on Oct. 31 & Nov. 1, is seeking volunteers from the local community to help accommodate the needs of the many thousands of visitors that are anticipated over the two days at The Great Race Place. Volunteers are needed to assist in a variety of patron services: Greeting racing fans as they enter the track’s grounds, escorting horse owners from their seats to and from the Paddock, staffing various areas to answer questions and provide directions, coordinating traffic arrangements and staffing the Breeders’ Cup Press Center. While an interest in horse racing and familiarity with Santa Anita Park

are not required, they would be helpful. Volunteers should be prepared to attend a Volunteer Orientation one week before the Breeders’ Cup, and on the day of their volunteer sessions, to be on their feet for a six hour period. Breeders’ Cup volunteers will have an opportunity to be involved with a world-class sports event that will be televised nationally on NBC Sports Group. The talented and inquisitive group of young men and women first met with City Manager John Schaefer in council chambers where they were briefed on the fine art of local politics in the United States. From there, the Mayor, Eugene Sun, and other city officials gave the young Ambassadors the tour of city departments, including fire and police. After going through a demanding selection process and undergoing intensive training for several months, the 16 Youth Ambassadors, who primarily major in art, music, and dance at Taiwan’s universities and graduate schools, headed up a cultural performance tour throughout

several cities in September. In addition to Los Angeles, the Youth Ambassadors will also perform in San Francisco, St. Christopher, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent. In their 90-minute performance, the young performers utilize their creativity and inspiration to combine Chinese opera, modern drama, contemporary and classical dance into a seamless performance. They hope to convey to the American audience the depth and range of Chinese culture through a youthful and uniquely Taiwanese performance. In addition to performances, they visited universities and cultural organizations in LA to share their art form.

ductivity. Coworking is quickly expanding to fill this need (http://blog.sqwiggle.com/ coworking-trends-statistics/). It offers workers the ability to use the space on a flexible basis, ranging from day use of an open, shared area to monthly rentals of reserved, locked offices. Kicks On 66 offers all of these options, as well as conference rooms and an approximately 2,000 sq. ft. back studio warehouse appropriate for photo shoots and special events.

A distinctive feature of coworking is an emphasis on collaboration and networking. Many coworking spaces encourage their members to gather on a regular basis, offering industry-related seminars, as well as social gatherings to facilitate relationships and networking. Kicks On 66 is following suit by offering itself as a venue to various organizations for their meetups via Meetup. com, as well as hosting its own meetups (www.meetup. com/goodmeetups/).

Kicks On 66 already houses eGood (http://www. egood.com), a social entrepreneurship startup that helps customers and businesses to donate a portion of their transactions to charity and RyCa Films (http:// rycafilms.com/), a video production company. As one fan stated at the Grand Opening Kickoff party, “Kicks On 66 is the coolest thing to happen to Glendora since The Donut Man.”

5 Ways to Change How Teachers Function in K-12 Classrooms Educational Researcher Says It Will Boost Learning & Cut Costs

Yuri Kochiyama's life celebrated By ralph walker Who is Yuri Kochiyama? What a special honor to attend the celebration of the life of Yuri Kochiyama, a true human rights activist who at 93 years old was true to her mantra to keep expanding your horizons, decolonize your mind ,and cross borders. The celebration began with the Maceo Hernandez and East LA Taiko who played the Taiko drums. The sound of thunder vibrated through Aratani / Japan American Theatre . Located in little Tokyo over 900 friends and family sat in silence as the sound of thunder continued to roar. Then the music stopped as the red velvet curtain slowly came down. stories about her life in the Harlem apartment # 3b. If you were in the Movement you were obligated to stop by and see Yuri. Yuri emerged herself in the civil rights movement the experience of living in American concentration camp in Jerome, Arkansas left an imprint on her soul. The mother of six children with a very supportive husband who had served in World War II. They both shared a very close friendship with Malcolm X She would later in life find herself crawling toward Malcolm X while others ran the other way on that fatal day Feb 21,1965 at the Audubon Ballroom In New York. Yuri would cradle the head of Malcolm in her lap saying ,”Please Malcolm.. ...stay alive.” Monrovia own curator

Jimmy O arranged for the family to receive a painting of Yuri from the artist Shuji Nishimuyou which was excepted by Yuri daughter Audee Kochiyama Holman. Bibi Angola shared her special memories working with Yuri 40 years ago in a court room Hearing for Assata Shakur a political prisoner. Bibi Angola encouraged us all to put a little piece of Yuri in our lives, Feed the homeless help someone with their homework ,believe in something higher than yourself dig deep and care about people over profits .Find out what’s going on in your neighborhood and get involved and take care of yourself like Yuri 93 years young. There is an effort to have Yuri Kochiyama on a postage stamp. Malcolm X has one why not Yuri?

Less than half of high school graduates who took the SAT in 2013 were prepared for college, continuing a fiveyear trend. Less than half – 44 percent -- who took the ACT had the reading skills necessary for college. That’s down from 53 percent in 2009. And nearly a third failed to meet standards in four areas: reading, English, science and math. Teachers unfairly shoulder much of the blame for the lack of progress, he notes, but they’re hamstrung by roles and rules that don’t work for 21st century students. “We need to change from teacher-centered education to learner-centered. In the Industrial Age paradigm, teachers are a judge and a perceived threat. In the Information Age, they should be guides and coaches who help students overcome obstacles,” says Reigeluth. “The new paradigm can significantly reduce the cost of education while increasing the quality,” says Reigeluth, who outlines the five new roles teachers would have in this redesigned system. • Mentor … the same 20 to 30 students for several years, addressing all aspects of student development. Students and teachers would develop the deeper relationships that foster real caring on both sides. Mentors

would help students prepare a personal learning plan for each project period, six to 12 weeks, including helping each student and his parents choose appropriate instructional goals, subject to standards set by the community, state and nation. Mentors would also help identify and support the best means for each student to achieve those goals. • Designer … of student work options, mostly projects or tasks, to engage students in the learning process. Open educational resources developed by teachers throughout the country and available to all educators for free via the Internet can alleviate much of the burden of the designer role. • Facilitator … of the learning process, which entails monitoring student progress, enhancing student motivation and coaching student performance. • Learner … the teacher is always learning with the students, about students, from and for the students. The teacher does not have all the answers, but the teacher helps students find answers. And the teacher is always learning more about how best to meet students’ needs. The new paradigm provides sufficient support for teacher learning. • Owner and manager … of the school. Like lawyers and accountants in a small firm, teachers

would be partners who own their public school and make decisions about its operations, including budgeting and staffing. This model is already a success at the Minnesota New Country School and other EdVisions schools. This role elevates teachers to that of true professionals, rather than workers controlled by an all-powerful bureaucracy. “These new roles offer empowerment to those who are most affected by our system, the student and the teacher, the latter of whom I suggest calling ‘guides’ to better reflect their new roles,” Reigeluth says. “The new roles better serve students in the age in which we live.” About Charles M. Reigeluth: Charles M. Reigeluth is a distinguished educational researcher who focuses on paradigm change in education. He has a B.A. in economics from Harvard University, and a Ph.D. in instructional psychology from Brigham Young University. He was a professor at the Instructional Systems Technology Department at Indiana University, and is a former chairman of the department. His new book, “Reinventing Schools,” (www. reigeluth.net), advocates and chronicles a national paradigm change in K-12 education. He offers presentations and consulting on this topic.

Ask Christina: Am I being overcharged by my hospital? By NerdWallet Health health finance expert Christina LaMontagne

Question: I have medical bills from a recent emergency operation and want to confirm they are not overcharging me. This is important because I have a high deductible insurance policy. How can I check that I’m being charged correctly? Answer: You can start by researching the market price for the surgery that was performed. There are many resources for this:

Wine Month

FAIR Health Consumer Cost Lookup and NerdWallet’s Best Hospitals Tool are two examples. These tools will tell you if what you’re being billed it totally out of left field or within reason. If your bill is wildly different from the going rate for your procedure, you should be extra meticulous about checking for errors. Either way, however, be sure to request an itemized bill from your provider, which will allow you to check each item you’re being billed for. Compare this to your Explanation of Benefits, or EOB, which will contain lots of details— including the amount your health care provider billed your insurance company, the total amount that was not covered and the total cost to you. Here are a few of many common mistakes to keep

an eye out for: • Duplicate charges: Double check that you’re not being charged twice for a service or procedure you only received once. This may not be immediately obvious on your itemized bill, but check each line closely. • Incorrect patient information: These common and small errors can lead to massive differences on your bill. If your subscriber ID is off, your policy cou ld be mistaken for one with very different benefits and coverage. • Operating room and anesthesia time: Since you underwent an operation, this is an important one to check. You might uncover an error that just doesn’t add up—realistically, the time you spent in the operating room and under anesthesia shouldn’t be all that different. These ser-

vices are typically billed in 15-minute increments, so errors here can multiply. If you identify errors on your bill, make sure to get them fixed before proceeding. Josefina Lopez Announces the Founding of Teatro Para Todos (Theatre For All), A New Theatre Company To Produce And Present Theatrical Fare In The Spanish Language JOSEFINA LOPEZ, the award-winning playwright and screenwriter and the Founding Artistic Director of Real Women Have Curves Studio and Casa 0101 Theater, both based in Boyle Heights, CA, announced today the founding of a new theatre company, TEATRO PARA TODOS (Theatre For All), which she will helm. Josefina López, creator of play and co-screenwriter of the Sundance Film Festival award-winning film, Real Women Have Curves, said, “Now as my first theatre company, Casa 0101 Theatre prepares for its 15th Anniversary Season in Boyle Heights, I feel the time is right to expand my artistic vision by announcing the birth of a new theatre company on the Eastside, TEATRO PARA TODOS (Theatre For All), whose mission will be to produce and present theatrical fare in the Spanish language, serving not only our local community, but

all Angelinos. “To get things started, prior to producing actual productions, I must first build a talent pool for Teatro Para Todos. As a means to that end, I have hired a Spanish theatre instructor and noted radio and television voiceover artist, Raul Romero, who will lead a 14-week Theatre Acting Workshop in Spanish from September 20 – December 20, 2014 at my studio in Boyle Heights.” Raul Romero said, “My goal is to develop professional caliber theatre actors in Spanish. To do that I teach students that acting should be an intense discipline that is a lot of fun, very similar to a children’s game, because when children play they have fun and take what they are doing seriously. Secondly, I instruct the actors to develop a strong ability to trust in themselves so that they are able to interpret character’s levels, from the horrify-

ing criminals to the most trusted civilians.” The Theatre Acting Workshop in Spanish will focus on gaining confidence in scene work, voice and body expression, the development of characters and text analysis. Students who are not completely fluent in Spanish are welcomed. The classes are structured for beginning to intermediate level adults 18 years of age and older. Classes will be held on Saturdays from September 20 – December 20, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (14 weeks) at Real Women Have Curves Studio, 2005 East First Street, Boyle Heights, CA 90033. The cost is $10 per session, which must be paid in advance. Scholarships for deserving students who can commit to all 14 sessions are available. To register and learn more, please contact Raul Romero at Real Women Have Curves Studio at 323-780-7030 and

leave a message, or E-mail him at raulallvoice@hotmail.com. To learn more about the Theatre Acting Workshop and Real Women Have Curves Studio, please visit www. rwhcstudio.com. Raul Romero is originally from Mexico City. He graduated from the Autonomy National University of Mexico (UNAM) in International Studies. While he was working in his career, as a hobby, he attended various theatre-acting workshops given at UNAM. During this time Romero discovered his natural talent as an announcer for radio and television commercials. On radio he used his voice to bring to life several characters in a news program. Eventually he became a member of a professional theatre group called Taller del Sotano (The Workshop in the Basement). The theatre group had such success in Mexico that they were

invited to present two theatre plays at the International Theater Festival in Chicago in1994. Romero was advised by his instructor, Aristides Vargas (author of one of the plays that was presented in Chicago) to follow his intuition to pursue are career in theatre and radio in Spanish in the United States, and specifically here, in Los Angeles, because of the large population of Spanish speakers that reside here. In Los Angeles Romero has written, acted and directed plays of his own, and those by other playwrights as well. He is an active member of SAG-AFTRA (the actors union) and has worked as voiceover talent in Spanish on hundreds of sitcoms and movies, including: LOST, starring the voice of Jack Shepard; DESPERATE HOUSEWIFES, starring the voice of Orson Hodge; THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL

starring the voice of Ridge Forrester and CSI Miami. Josefina López (Playwright, Screenwriter, Founder and Artistic Director of CASA 0101 Theater, Real Women Have Curves Studio, Teatro Para Todos, Producer) is best known for authoring the play and co-authoring the Sundance Film Festival award-winning film Real Women Have Curves. Her canon of work includes full and one-act plays, screenplays and television scripts. Published works include her first novel, Hungry Woman In Paris (2009), Grand Central Publishing; Real Women Have Curves and Other Plays (2011), WPR Books: Latino Insights; and Volume 2 of The Essential Latino Play Series: Detained in the Desert and Other Plays (2011), WPR Books: Latino Insights. Spend or Invest? New thoughts on an age-old dilemma A familiar experience for many Americans is that as fast as money comes in, it goes out the door again in pursuit of the next “must have” purchase. Such spending habits can take a toll on plans to build up savings for the future. The key is finding a balance between immediate gratification and long-term financial security. In many instances, we can all find ways save on daily purchases to set more money aside to help meet goals like saving for retirement or a child’s education. The bigger challenge comes when it is time to make a major purchase – a home, a car, appliances or home improvements. These expenditures can require the immediate outlay of thousands of dollars. You may have to drain money from savings or at the very least reduce available funds to invest for your future. When is the expenditure worth it, and when is the cost too prohibitive relative to your financial future? Judging the “real” cost There are a variety of ways to assess the financial value of a major purchase.

The approach you choose can vary depending on the type of expenditure you make. Here are three ways to think about it: 1. Opportunity cost Whenever you’re making a significant purchase on a product or service, you need to look at how it will impact your financial future. It is important to assess the opportunity cost of making a cash purchase today. For example, consider what could happen if instead of spending $5,000 on a home entertainment center, that money was invested for 20 years earning 7% per year. Over time, that $5,000 could grow to more than $19,000 (not accounting for taxes or investment fees). Assessing potential opportunity cost is one way to better evaluate the real cost of making a significant purchase. 2. A “return on investment” Another consideration is whether there is a payback on the purchase. For example, paying for a class or a college degree may provide a future return in the form of the potential for increased income. Anybody

who has spent (or taken loans for) $100,000 or more for a medical or law degree likely does so with a reasonable expectation that future income will more than make up the difference. A home improvement may be looked at in the same way – an investment that may be recouped in the future. 3. Borrowing the money to cover purchase costs While it may be tempting to pay for purchases with credit cards, home equity loans or other types of financing, you have to think about how much borrowing the money will cost in the long run. The key here is to limit interest charges as much as possible. It’s not that you necessarily need to avoid all debt. In some instances you can incur “good debt,” which is used to purchase an asset that has a long lifespan, increasing value and other potential benefits such as tax deductibility of interest. Mortgages and student loans are typically considered good debt. Major expenditures aren’t just about the immediate benefit. You should consider whether the cur-

rent cost would become more significant over time because the money was not invested for your future.

What to do when the earth starts shaking Continued from page 1

new one. So what should you do? First prepare your home for a quake. Put a flashlight and sturdy shoes by everyone’s bed (why not inside an old pair of shoes for adults). Be sure the house is tied to its foundation. Bolt the water heater and other gas appliances to wall studs. Bolt tall furniture like china cabinets and bookcases to wall studs. Hang heavy items away from beds, couches or other places where people regular sit or sleep. Install strong latches on cabinets and cupboards. Be sure that you have stored large and heavy object near the floor. It is also a good idea to secure your computer and your television. Another good thing is to learn where your gas shut off valve is. Learn how to shut this off. Gas leaks are a major concern after earthquakes as they can lead to fire. You should also prepare or update your emergency supply kit (see related article page___). The Red Cross suggest that you “pick a safe place in each room in your house or workplace”, such as “under a piece of furniture or against an interior wall away from windows, bookcase or tall furniture that could fall on you.” They suggest that you also practice “Practice “drop, cover and hold on” in each safe place. If you do not have sturdy furniture to hold on to, sit on the floor next to an interior wall and cover your head and neck with your arms.” But who is really going to do this after graduating

from high school? If you have children this could be a fun exercise, especially if combined with a family backyard cookout to simulate creating a meal without electricity. But at lease file the information away somewhere in your mind to recall when you need it. SO what do you do when the shaking starts? Try to recall that “Drop Cover and Hold” thing (They now say that doorframes are no longer the strongest spot in your home- who knew). Contrary to the seismic expert who recommended rolling out of bed and remaining next to it, the Red Cross recommends that you remain in bed and protect your head with the pillow. Stay away from windows (to avoid breaking glass) and from things that could fall on you. Stay indoors until the shaking stops; then, use stairs (not elevators) when you leave the building. If you are outside, find a safe spot away from building, power lines, trees or street lights (things which could fall on you), and drop to the ground and stay there. If you are in a car, pull over into a safe spot. In this case, avoid bridges, overpasses, and power lines. If, heaven forbid, a power line falls on your car, do not get out. Wait for assistance to arrive. The Red Cross also suggests: “If you are in a mountainous area or near unstable slopes or cliffs, be alert for falling rocks and other debris. Landslides are often triggered by earthquakes.” After the earthquake, be

aware that there will be aftershocks. Treat each one like the first quake was a pre-shock (it is possible, even with a big quake). Immediately after the quake, check for injuries to yourself or those around you. Get first aid if necessary. Put on long pants, a long sleeved shirt and shoes (this will prevent injuries from broken objects. If you are at home, look for damage and ensure the safety of the rest of the family. Get out of the house, if it is damaged. Listen to the radio for emergency information and instructions. Check phones for a dial tone (the only calls you make should be if there is an emergency or brief ones to report real emergencies (Trust me, the sops know there was a an earthquake – you don’t need to tell them). Look around for small fires and extinguish them. Clean up spilled medications, bleach, gasoline or any other flammable liquids. There are some major cautions as well: Stay away from downed power lines or broken gas lines. Stay out of damages areas or buildings that have been “tagged” as dangerous. If you away from home, return only when it is safe. Be careful when checking for damage (things may have sifted in closets or cupboards and may come falling out when you open them). Be aware that walls, stairs and doors may not be as sage as when you let. Remember, traffic lights may not be working, so take extra care when driving.

Have you updated your Emergency Preparedness Kit? By susan Motander Whenever an earthquake strikes anywhere in the world, most especially when is occurs here in California, use it as a reminder to update your emergency preparedness kit. What? You live in California and don’t have one? Are you crazy or just new to the area? Everyone should have at least some sort of emergency kit (better yet have two, one in your car and one at home). And everyone in the house should know where it is. Assuming you have a kit, check the dates on items that may expire such as medications. Look at the date on the food and change out the water. (Hey, since we are in a drought, water your plants the old stuff and buy fresh water for the kti). If you do not have a kit, prepare one now. Do not hesitate or merely plan. This is California; there will be another earthquake. The only questions are where and when. Great ideas for what should be in your kit are available on line form the American Red Cross (http:// www.redcross.org/prepare/ location/home-family/get-kit). The following is a distillation of those ideas: Food and water for at least three days packed and ready to leave (in case of evacuation) and two weeks at home (in case you are on your own). A flashlight (I keep one in a old pair of sturdy shoes under the bed –easy to find

and convenient as earthquakes always seem to happen in the middle of the night) and a battery operated radio along with extra batteries for each) A first aid kit and a seven day supply of any medications you or family members take. Multi-purpose tool (I assume this means one of those hammer/ax type things and not my Swiss army knife – although that is a good thing to have as well) Personal hygiene and sanitation supplies (read for this toilet paper, tampons and hand sanitizer) Copies of important personal documents such as prescriptions, proof of address, deed/lease (proof you belong where you are), passports, birth certificates, insurance policies) Cell phone and charger List of emergency contact numbers for family Cash (ATMs may not be working) Emergency blanket The red cross also suggest you have a map. Since you are supposed to remain in place, this might seem strange, but since you will probably be listening to that portable radio. The map will help you to relate to the information on the radio. That group is the basic list, but there may be other issues. Is there an elderly member of the family? What about hearing aid batteries (if you have ever tried to communicate with an el-

derly parent whose “ears” aren’t working, you know the importance of this item). What about a baby; they have special supply needs as well. If there are children in the house, consider not electronic games to keep them occupied. The pet family members will also have special needs (many dogs are traumatized by earthquakes and cat are easily spooked as well). The Red Cross also suggests perhaps a two way radio this will require advance planning) and extra sets of car keys. These are more up to you and your kneed situation. But eh final suggestion is a true necessity: a manual can opener. All that canned food in the pantry is useless unless you can open them. There are other items that are a good idea to have in one place: a whistle, N95 or surgical masks, matches, rain gear, towels, work gloves, tools/supplies for securing your home. extra clothing, hat and sturdy shoes, plastic sheeting, duct tape, scissors, household liquid bleach, entertainment items, blankets or sleeping bags. Most of these items are in your home, but where is the question. Perhaps this would be a good time to pull this group together in a central location. Remember, in California earthquakes are a regular occurrence and need not be a total disaster. Follow the Boy Scout’s Motto: BE PREPARED.

Santa Anita Park Seeking Breeders’ Cup Volunteers; Continued from page 1

1, is seeking volunteers from the local community to help accommodate the needs of the many thousands of visitors that are anticipated over the two days at The Great Race Place. Volunteers are needed to assist in a variety of patron services: Greeting racing fans as they enter the track’s grounds, escorting horse owners from their seats to and from the Pad-

dock, staffing various areas to answer questions and provide directions, coordinating traffic arrangements and staffing the Breeders’ Cup Press Center. While an interest in horse racing and familiarity with Santa Anita Park are not required, they would be helpful. Volunteers should be prepared to attend a Volunteer Orientation one week before the Breed-

ers’ Cup, and on the day of their volunteer sessions, to be on their feet for a six hour period. Breeders’ Cup volunteers will have an opportunity to be involved with a world-class sports event that will be televised nationally on NBC Sports Group. Those interested are encouraged to contact Sheila Solis at (626) 574-6663, or via email at sheilasolis@santaanita.com.

Important advice for the ‘sandwich generation’ If you’re between the ages of 35 and 55, you may be feeling a financial pinch from both your growing — or grown — children and your aging parents or in-laws. You may also find yourself under pressure as you try to juggle your work commitments and the expectations from family members for your time and support. As a member of what’s known as the Sandwich Generation, you’re not alone. Unlike previous generations where children left their homes earlier and more permanently, today kids tend to live at home longer — or move out and return over time, sometimes with their children in tow. And parents tend to live longer, often spending 25 years or more in retirement. If you’re wondering how to keep yourself financially on track in the face of these competing demands, the following strategies may help: • Pay yourself first — Instead of paying your bills and other expenses and then saving what’s leftover, automatically route a portion of your paycheck to your 401(k), Roth IRA or other retirement savings account — and encourage your working children to do the same. This ensures you’re regularly investing in your future financial security. And because of the power of compound interest, the sooner your children start this habit, the better their chances are of accruing wealth. • Talk openly about finances — Discuss the basic tenets of sound money management with your children to help them develop good saving and spending habits at an early age. This includes helping them understand the role cash reserves, insurance protection, fixed investments and equity investments play in their overall financial strategy. On the flip side, it’s equally important to talk with your parents about their

plan for meeting their financial obligations in the years ahead. This includes knowing what — if any — plans they have if they become ill or incapacitated. • Discuss long-term care insurance — One of the greatest challenges when it comes to planning for retirement is trying to predict future healthcare expenses. Inhome health care costs or a lengthy nursing home stay can wreck havoc on a family’s finances. If your parents don’t already have longterm care insurance, they might want to look into it. • Make sure financial and legal documents are up to date — Whether it’s you, your parents or your children, it’s important to determine whether you’ll need a Durable Power of Attorney, a Healthcare Proxy, a Living Will and a Last Will and Testament. It’s also key to review and update beneficiary designations on investments and insurance policies because they may trump what’s stated in a will. In addition, it’s wise to keep a list of your financial accounts and passwords — and know where your parents and children keep theirs — in case one of you needs to step in for another. And don’t forget to keep these documents in a safe place. • Explore resources to help offset costs — If your children are attending college, research the scholarship opportunities or work-study programs that may be available to them. Also, find out whether your parents qualify for any federal, state or local benefits. This knowledge can help all of you make better and more informed decisions about budgeting, school choices, loan options, long-term care options and other financial choices that need to be made. • Set limits — Although your career may be reaching its peak and you may be making

more money than ever, it doesn’t mean those dollars are up for grabs. Be clear with your children and parents about how much financial support — if any — you are realistically able to provide. If you choose to give them money, be clear whether it’s a loan that needs to be repaid or a gift that does not. When loaning money, document the conditions of the loan in writing and have both parties sign and date the agreement so that there are no misunderstandings. For help understanding the potential pitfalls of the sandwich generation and how to protect yourself and those who matter most to you against them, consult a reputable financial advisor. An advisor can help you create a financial strategy to that makes sense for your situation.

Notice to Potential Bidders If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a Trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a Trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same Lender may hold more than one mortgage or Deed of Trust on the property. Notice to Property Owner The sale date shown on this Notice of Sale may be postponed one or more times by the Mortgagee, Beneficiary, Trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about Trustee Sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale.
