Monrovia officials address homeless in Library Park Officials estimate between 17-38 people are homeless in Monrovia
BY TERRY MILLER As people face a world filled with global conflict, disappearing jobs, higher education costs, and increasing poverty in America, action is needed to help those less fortunate. Monrovia is one city that is becoming proactive. However, not everyone can or is willing to help. In fact, according to official reports, some of the homeless may not even want help or are resistant to any intervention. In fact, we spoke with several homeless people this week in Monrovia and got a tiny peek into a world where these men and women have to avoid being arrested for illegal camping. “People in the library are pretty cool,” says Jennifer Williams, thirty-three, who has been on the streets for 4 ½ years with her dad Please see page 20

Pasadena City Council declares Level 1 Water Shortage
Outdoor watering limited to three days a week The Pasadena City Council at its July 28, 2014 meeting declared a local water emergency, establishing a 20-percent conservation goal and implementing the City’s Level 1 Water Supply Shortage Plan, with mandatory water waste restrictions effective immediately. The Level 1 plan limits watering to three days per week in summer, one day per week in winter and requires that leaks be repaired within 72 hours, in addition to permanent water waste prohibitions. Taiwan - USA Synergy slated August 5 in Los Angeles Taiwan is America’s 12th largest trading partner and as such the importance of the relationship between the two countries continues to grow exponentially.
