Hernández Child Labor Protections Measure signed by Governor Assemblymember Roger Hernández (D-West Covina) announced that AB 2288 was signed by Governor Brown this week. AB 2288 will strengthen current law to protect children from child labor abuses. “I thank Governor Brown for his continued support in protecting our minors. Although, many may believe the exploitation of minors is a thing of the past, it is very prevalent in many industries today. This is why we must continue to protect our children from abuses. Some of our earliest labor laws in this nation were aimed to protect minors who were often mistreated and abused in the workplace,” stated Hernández. On June 22, 2014, at approximately 12:30 p.m., a brush fire broke out in Brand Park, causing damage to approximately 150 acres of mountain terrain. Although no homes or structures were damaged, Detectives have determined through their investigation and witness statements that the three-day brushfire may have been a result of arson. The suspects are believed to be three males in their mid to late teens and were last seen running to what is described as a gray sport utility style vehicle. The suspects fled during a time when the park was occupied by many visitors

A close friend recommended I check out Levi Ponce’s art (www.leviponce. com). Thrilled about what I saw, we set up an interview at the location of his next mural on a Sunday.
