600 marijuana plants found in Monrovia Suspects arrested on multiple charges Police seized 600 plants, two pounds of dried marijuana, two vehicles, and cash from a Monrovia home Wednesday morning. A strong odor prompted authorities to obtain a search warrant at the 200 block of West Cypress Avenue. The Monrovia Special Enforcement Team and the Los Angeles Interagency Metropolitan Police Apprehension Crime Task Force served a search warrant at the location just after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Robert Tran, 34, of San Gabriel, Tan Vuong, 36, of West Covina and Kuong Yek, 36, of Woodbury, Minnesota were arrested on suspicion of cultivating marijuana, possession of marijuana for sales, grand theft and conspiracy.

Arcadia Museum Education Center dedicated Senator Carol Liu announces first hearing on aging and long-term care

Senator Carol Liu (DLa Cañada, Flintridge) will host the first Southern California informational hearing of the new Senate Select Committee on Aging and Long Term Care on Tuesday, July 8 at the Glendale Public Library from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p. m. California has the largest population of people age 65 and older of any state in the nation. The 65+ population is projected to double from 4.3 million in 2010 to 8.4 million in 2030. While care and assistance agencies have grown in California, there has been little effort to coordinate services across the state. Established in February 2014, and Chaired by Senator Liu, the Select Committee’s goal is to develop a comprehensive statewide strategy for an effective and efficient Aging

Homicide Bureau Investigating boating death at Pyramid Lake, Gorman Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) Emergency Services Detail (ESD) divers have suspended their efforts for the day, in searching Lake Pyramid for any additional victims. The search began when LASD Parks Bureau deputies found 52 year-old Rich Tanovan on Sunday, June 29th, submerged under water approximately fifteen feet from the shore. Tanovan, a resident of West Covina, was caught amongst the foliage and apparently drowned. However, the exact cause of death has yet to be determined. There are indicators that Tanovan was accompanied on the boat by a friend, Jack

Thirasack, a 64 year-old resident of Baldwin Park, as family members confirmed with investigators that they went to the lake together. Thirasack’s fishing license was found in the water on Sunday, near the partially submerged boat that was about 30 yards from the shore. LASD Emergency Services Detail divers have searched the underwater area near the site for the past three days, using several divers, sonar equipment and an underwater cadaver dog. The dog was also used to search Chumash Island, which is in the lake near the area where the boat was found. Update: Los Angeles

County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) Emergency Services Detail (ESD) divers have located the body of 64-year-old Jack Thirasack in Pyramid Lake at approximately 9:15 Wednesday morning. Detectives believe that Thirasack died as a result of drowning, though the exact cause of death is unknown. The body was found 20 feet from shore, approximately 30 feet northeast from where the body of Rich Tanovan was found on Sunday. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.

Arcadia Firefighter died from fall, coroner says Ventura County Sheriff’s Department announced last Friday that Arcadia Fire Department Firefighter/Paramedic Mike Herdman’s body was found and recovered last Friday morning in rugged terrain approximately 1200 feet above the Sespe River outside of Fillmore. Herdman died instantly after falling from a cliff in the Sespe Wilderness of the Los Padres National Forest, the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office disclosed Tuesday morning.
