Celebrate the 4th on this 236th Birthday of the USA BY SHEL SEGAL As the nation prepares to celebrate its 236th birthday, here is a list of patriotic ways San Gabriel Valley residents can commemorate the day: The largest area festival takes place at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena and is known as AmericaFest. The festival starts outside the stadium at 2 p.m. At 7 p.m. the crowd inside the stadium is treated to motorcycle stunts and the Beatle tribute band known as “Liverpool Legend, Beatle Experience." Sierra Madre discusses more water restrictions BY SHEL SEGAL The Sierra Madre City Council is currently discussing whether it should us more restrictive water-use policies, according to a published report. This comes as the drought throughout the state has forced the city to buy water – which can brown in some parts of the city – from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, officials said. In addition, the city might lose access to this newly gained water supply in 2015, official said. Last October, the city council stopped drawing water from its wells and began buying water from MWD in an effort to save some of the water supply in the East Raymond

Arcadia Museum Education Center dedicated BY TERRY MILLER
A five-year project from concept to completion, the 2,500 square foot Arcadia History Museum Education center was officially dedicated last Saturday, June 28th, with appropriate fanfare, speeches, and accolades. Long a dream of Arcadia’s first female mayor Floretta Lauber, the Museum Education Center will fill a void in the museum’s ability to bring in guest lecturers on various subjects of interest to Arcadia specifically. The Museum Foundation was the founding sponsor and donated $500,000.00 to the City of Arcadia towards the cost of the building. thanks her for her tireless efforts these past five years in spearheading the project. The plaque will be placed on a wall in the Education Center. The overflow crowd was treated to a ribbon cutting ceremony followed by a special desserts buffet

Arcadia Firefighter died from fall, coroner says Ventura County Sheriff’s Department announced last Friday that Arcadia Fire Department Firefighter/Paramedic Mike Herdman’s body was found and recovered last Friday morning in rugged terrain approximately 1200 feet above the Sespe River outside of Fillmore. Herdman died instantly after falling from a cliff in the Sespe Wilderness of the Los Padres National Forest, the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office disclosed Tuesday morning. Herdman was dead for at least a few days and his injuries were “consistent with a significant fall,” according to Chief Deputy Medical Examiner Armando Chavez.
