Residents take a bite out of Pasadena council’s Pit Bull proposal City Council Monday voted to table a proposed ordinance to require all pit bull breeds to be spayed or neutered. The controversial ordinance proposed by Councilman Steve Madison for the mandatory spay/neuter of pit bulls and cross breeds has received huge opposition and Monday’s council meeting confirmed that opposition. The reason for the proposal has been the number of attacks attributed to Pit Bulls in Los Angeles county over the last 20 years. Madison argued that the ordinance was necessary to avoid violent incidents between the dogs and humans. Please see page 9
Prop 218 protest fails in Sierra Madre; Water rates to rise BY SHEL SEGAL A protest to the city of Sierra Madre setting water and sewer rates for fiscal years ending 2014 through 2018 failed. The vote, which was tabulated by the city staff prior to a protest hearing on Tuesday, did not pass as just 1,035 votes in favor of the protest were cast, city officials said as the hearing ended. A 23 year old man has filed a lawsuit against the Catholic Church alleging he was a victim of sexual abuse of a St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church volunteer, who now works for the Baldwin Park Unified School District. Robert Reynolds has accused Timothy Kovacs of molesting him in 2003, when he was 13 and says in the ensuring 7 years, the abuse continued. Pasadena Police shoot Pit Bull in attack in Pasadena Wednesday Less than 2 days after Pasadena City council tabled a proposed ordinance demanding spaying and neutering of Pit Bulls, another violent attack was reported Wednesday morning, this time involving a shooting death of one of the suspect dogs. The Pasadena Police Department was contacted early Wednesday morning requesting assistance for a male being attacked by three dogs.
