Father in law arrested in stabbing murder in Arcadia

At approximately 4:10 p.m. Saturday afternoon near Monterey Road and Pasadena Avenue a male was struck and killed by a northbound Gold Line train. While under investigation, reports seem to indicate the 57-year old was on the tracks between the arms. Service was briefly shut down between the Highland Park and Pasadena Gold Line station, and buses were used to transport passengers, Montenegro said. Service on the line was delayed for about 20 minutes.

Two Temple City condominium units destroyed by fire Monday morning Two units were destroyed, and a third sustained serious damage when flames ripped through a condominium complex Monday morning in Temple City, according to reports. The fire broke out around 1:20 a.m. inside the building located in the 9000 block of Rancho Real. Damaging a third unit, the fire was put out shortly after firefighters from LA County arrived. Officials on the scene said working that smoke alarms and a ’quickthinking resident’ saved lives in this fire. All of the residents managed to get out of the building safely and no one was injured. The Red Cross is assisting residents of the two units that were destroyed. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

On January 7, 2014, at approximately 8:24 a.m., officers responded to an apartment complex located in the 900 Block of Arcadia Avenue on the report of a female not breathing. On arrival officers encountered a female victim inside of an apartment suffering from multiple stab wounds. Arriving officers were directed to a possible suspect who had just left the location. Responding officers were able to locate the suspect and took him into custody without incident. Paramedics from the Arcadia Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the victim to Huntington Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced deceased by emergency room personnel. The victim was identified as Xiaolin Li, a 41-year-old female resident

BY TERRY MILLER In what can only be described as a highly emotional press conference Tuesday, Sheriff Lee Baca announced his plans to step down at the end of January. Hundreds of media representatives, colleagues and deputies plus numerous supporters of the embattled Sheriff attended

the press conference in Monterey Park. The news of Baca's decision to step down caught people by surprise inside and outside the county agency. He was in a tough re-election battle while dealing with many serious accusations of impropriety against him and at least 18 deputies under his command, particularly with

regard to the jails. Baca allegedly told top officials in county government late Monday that he believed stepping down would help the department. Baca made a brief statement Tuesday morning then followed with a brief question and answer period. “I have been proud and honored to serve the Los

The 2014 Rose Parade last week featured remarkable, floral-covered floats . However, none was more impressive than the self-built float of Sierra Madre Rose Float Association according the the Mayor who declared Sierra Madre’s entry “Most outstanding city entry -- national or international.” A distinct honor for the tiny foothill community.
