A small brush fire broke out near the 210 Freeway at Irwindale Avenue in Irwindale Monday afternoon. Crews responded to the 2nd alarm brush fire around 12:40 p.m. The fire burned approx.. two acres. Super scoopers and Erikson crane choppers in addition to LA County Fire choppers attacked the fire. It was fully contained in less than an hour. No injuries were reported. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

Motorists and smallbusiness owners will receive some parking relief in January. Protesters ask El Monte students to stop work on Rose Parade float by dena burroughs While most often float preparation for the Rose Parade represents hours of camaraderie and volunteerism, this year it also included protests against SeaWorld’s entry. PETA supporters showed up at various float

decorating locations to voice their feelings against the “Sea of Surprises,” which was the float that the members of the El Monte Arroyo High School Marching Band had been assigned to work on. For years these students have exchanged hours of work gluing flowers to the floats
