California teachers have new guidance in teaching English language arts under the Common Core State Standards with additional support for English learners, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson announced today as the State Board of Education adopted the English Language Arts/English Language Development Framework for California Public Schools (Framework).This is the first time in the nation that a state has adopted dual guidelines in one publication for both English language arts and English language development. “Bringing together the standards for English language arts and English language development will help give all students— no matter where they come from or where they live—the tools to read, write, and understand all their courses, so they will be ready for college and careers,” Torlakson said. “The new Framework addresses the needs of our diverse student population and gives teachers a ‘roadmap’ for curriculum and instruction under the Common Core.” The Framework provides

in the Register. A few months back, two Orange County men murdered four women, creating panic among families across the county. The two men, however, were technically not allowed to meet and even though they wore GPS devices, officials stated that they met often and did not face any grave penalties. Of greater concern was that their federal probation supervisors did
not know about the frequent visits and close relationship between the two men. They also never compared the data generated on the GPS devices, which would have raised red flags and perhaps prevented the death of four people. Angler will not be cited by CDFW for hooking white shark from Manhattan Beach Pier The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) today announced they found no evidence state fishing laws were violated by an angler who hooked a white shark from the Manhattan Beach Pier. An investigation including evidence from videos, social media and personal interviews did not provide proof there was intent by the angler to tar-
get white sharks. It is legal to fish for the many species of sharks, rays and other fish that frequent the waters surrounding the pier using the same techniques used that day. Facebook posts and interviews resulted in evidence that showed the angler was targeting bat rays, but admitted to catching sharks including white sharks. This is a legal activity and
