Anaheim recognized as a top place for kids to play by Vickie VĆ©rtiz The City of Anaheim was recently designated as a 2014 Playful City USA, for providing places and opportunities for children to have yearround balanced and active play. Sponsored by the Humana Foundation, Playful City USA is a national recognition program that honors cities and towns championing efforts to make play a priority, whether through policies, infrastructure investments, innovative programming, or a combination of all three efforts. The program recognizes communities that demonstrate a commitment to ensuring all kids get the balance of active play they need to be healthy and happy. According to a press release, Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait said, āAnaheim is a great place to live, work and play, with an emphasis on play.ā He gave thanks to the staff at KaBOOM! and the Humana Foundation for ārecognizing

Honor America and celebrate Independence Day safely Independence Day is a holiday all of us look forward to celebrating. Whether spending time with family and friends at home or at a special event, the City of Anaheim would like to encourage the community to honor America while minimizing the risk for fire or injury. Please take a moment to review the following tips and ideas on celebrating Independence Day this year. ā¢There are numerous approved fireworks displays and Independence Day celebra-
tions for all to enjoy, such as the Angels Baseball game (6:05 p.m.) and the Anaheim Hills Community Council daylong celebration featuring the Firecracker 5K/10K run, dog show, food and entertainment, parade with Grand Marshal retired Anaheim Police K9 Bruno, and more. ā¢Anaheim does interface with wildland fire danger areas, and with the beauty of nature comes the risk of wildfires. Anaheim Fire & Rescue advises all residents to do their
part to mitigate the potential for fires. ā¢California is experiencing severe drought conditions, and illegal fireworks present great danger and risk for quickly spreading fires, injury, or worse. ā¢The possession, sale or use of fireworks without a permit is prohibited by law in the City of Anaheim. ā¢If you suspect the use of illegal fireworks, please call 911.
