Boys & Girls Club Recognizes Youth of the Year Recipients The Boys & Girls Club of Cypress was happy to select two members as Youths of the Year for 2014: Sal Villa of the Moody Branch and Imani Austin of Club King. Both members were selected for their overall involvement in Club programs and also for displaying excellent leadership skills. Imani Austin is a sixth grade student at King Elementary School in the Cypress School District. She has been a member for the past five years and is very respectful to staff and enjoys helping his peers and staff whenever he can. “Imani has a wonderful attitude and works really hard. She is a positive role model at Club King and is always willing to lend a helping hand,” said Allison Valois, Club King Site Director.

Cypress College Art Gallery Opens First Exhibit of Spring 15 Recognized Artists to be Featured by marc posner The first Art Gallery exhibition of 2015 opened on Thursday evening. The exhibit features the beautiful work of fifteen internationally recognized artists in “Surface to Edge” — curated by Carl F. Berg. In the Project Space

is “Christine Taber: a quindecennial retrospective” The exhibition continues through March 5. Color field and hard edge painting are two divergent but related spheres of abstraction. While focusing on the inter-

play of colors, these two deviating forms of abstraction come together to explore the relationship of color to the viewer. Optical phenomenon is at play creating illusion through the use of color and form. Please see page 2

Club King Presentation at Cypress Rotary Club The Cypress Rotary Club invited representatives from Boys & Girls Club of Cypress and King School to present information about the Club King after school program. Club King is an afterschool program serving 100 students who attend King School. Club King members participate in a comprehensive program that includes snack, homework help, enrichment classes, sports and recreation. Founded in 2006 the program is partially funded by Proposition 49. Community support of an additional $30,000 each year ensures that the Club can provide an instructor for each grade level and provide a Kindergarten class as well as 1st through 6th graders.
