In recognition of the pressing need to enhance overall competitiveness in the life sciences ecosystem, consisting of established companies of all sizes as well as start-ups and scientific organizations across Europe, the European Life Sciences Business Alliance has been established as a comprehensive and equal partnership. Formed by the leading European business federations BDI, Confindustria, DI, MEDEF and IV this alliance aims to encompass the entire life sciences sector across Europe, fostering research, technology and innovation as well as cross sectoral cooperation within Europe and a correspondingly aligned EU policy.
Mission:
To create a comprehensive European business alliance for cross-cutting business federations encompassing the entire life sciences sector, working to ensure reliable innovative high-end health treatment and a reliable supply for medicines and MedTech for patients and strengthen competitiveness of the European life sciences ecosystem. Our aim is to position Europe as the globally leading and highly competitive region in life sciences, thereby increasing technology leadership, while making sure that Europe is resilient and self-reliant.
Vision:
To establish Europe as the global leader in life sciences by enhancing regional collaboration, fostering research, technology development and innovation, and ensuring availability of cutting-edge healthcare solutions. By prioritizing competitive frameworks, climate policy, technology, digitalisation, deep tech, innovation and trade, we aim to solidify Europe's position in the global life sciences landscape. Europe should be the first choice for developing, testing, implementing, applying, and rolling out innovative high-end healthcare. We consider a stringent and well-coordinated cross-sectoral policy to be particularly important in this regard.
Objectives and Activities:
The European Life Sciences Business Alliance acknowledges the importance of adopting a cross-cutting approach to life sciences - one that spans across research, innovation, health policy, climate, digitalization, and trade - and therefore underscores the need for our business federations to join forces.
To achieve our overall objectives, the alliance will engage in activities such as policy advocacy, collaborative projects for sustainable growth, and joint analysis initiatives. Furthermore, we initiate suitable formats to incorporate input and suggestions from high-level representatives of the industry into our work, to provide guidance and perspective to the EU institutions in achieving its objective of making EU the world’s most attractive place for life sciences in 2030.
Conclusion:
We, the representatives of BDI, Confindustria, DI, MEDEF and IV affirm our commitment to the European Life Sciences Business Alliance's goals and objectives. By joining forces, we embrace responsibility for positioning Europe at the forefront of life sciences innovation and development. Europe’s life sciences sector combines strong research, funding, and innovation, supported by EU strategies and rising investments creating a powerful growth multiplier. It already delivers 9.4% of EU value creation and 29 million jobs, yet there is still significant untapped potential to turn this into an even greater success story.
