This summer, the locker room was always open in the morning, so students could come in and participate in summer weights. Summer weights are when students come in over the summer, 4 days per week, to stay active and come to do workouts and lift weights. This course had approximately 40 students, about 20 boys and 20 girls. The type of activities that were carried out were a weight training program, workout, and sports practice. The coaches also added a few fun activities, such as a relay race with fireworks on the 4th of July.

According to Coach Roberts, “It is important to participate in these activities because it’s important to be healthy, improve yourself, get stronger and faster.” Also, “We don’t always have time to make adjustments and get stronger and get faster during the season,” says Coach Horr. Students found the program beneficial. “I went up to almost a hundred pounds in squats, and it helped boost my confidence,” says Freshman Lauraly Lane. Some of the best parts of weights were, “Seeing the boys get stronger and faster,” says Coach Roberts. Coach Horr says one of the best parts was, “Seeing how much weight they can lift at the beginning of the summer and how much weight they can throw around at the end of the summer. That’s really awesome.” Coach Horr notes that “Summer weights are really the time to make adjustments, so it’s really important to show up and show out, especially if you’re looking for that varsity spot.” Coach Roberts would like to “invite more kids to come to Summer Weights because the only way to get better is working hard.”
