MS Students Take on Solos By: Josie Long

On Saturday, March 14, Middle School Band students performed solos they had been working on for about 10 weeks at Northwest Missouri State University. Mrs. King took 6 students to perform before judges, not only to score them, but also to provide advice and techniques to work on. The students' scores ranged from 1 to 2, with a majority of them getting a 1. Eighth grader Jackson Wachtel has “taken a solo 2 years in a row now. I’m not super ready to perform on a High School level next year as its nerve-wracking, and they [the judges] are a lot more strict on how they score, but I’m still going to take a solo.” Performing solos in middle school is a great way to not only get advice on what to work on, but it also gives you a chance to step out of your comfort zone and prepare yourself for – --CONTINUED ON PAGE 6
