By: Michaela Copeland On Friday, March 6th, the DeKalb Tiger Pride Band travelled to Lafayette to compete in an annual contest. For the past two years, our band has received a 1 rating, which is the highest level. Since Christmas break, the band prepared two different pieces to perform in front of three judges, including March Phantasma by Randall D. Standridge and Celtic Air and Dance by Michael Sweeney. Eighth Grader Griffin Davis says, “The hardest part about getting ready for the contest was trying to remember each of the little things that we learned in class.” During the contest, each band performs for the three judges. Shortly after, each judge walks through the music, offering suggestions and areas the band can improve to make it sound better overall. “We did really well at staying together even though we were in a different place where the sound was more stretched out,” says Freshman Analeesa Busby. Band Director Mrs. King adds, “I’m most proud of preparation and attention to detail leading up to the performance. I’m also very proud of the emotion we played with, more than just the right notes and rhythms, and making it fun to play and listen to. I’m glad the band was pleased with their performance.” The Tiger Pride Band wants to thank everyone who came out to support them in St. Joseph during their contest!
