SPOTLIGHT ON MR. WHITE BY HELAINA GEOFFROY
From preparing food all the way to how much time and what it costs to travel, we use math everyday without realizing it. One of the two Math teachers here at De Kalb is Mr. White. He teaches middle and high school students. Mr. White has worked at De Kalb for 6 years. “I got into teaching because there is a severe need for math,” recalled Mr. White. His favorite thing about teaching is noticing that the students understand what he is teaching. During his free time he likes to read fantasy books, right now he is reading Rising of the Shield Hero .

Mr.White also plays video games like RimWorld, Pokemon, and Dungeons and Dragons. He likes to cook cinnamon rolls, but loves to eat Japanese style kuri.
DAVYN HUMES' BOOK OF THE WEEK BY TRICIA SIMPSON
De Kalb has students who have a passion for reading, and one of those students is sophomore Davyn Humes. If you ask, they will always be able to give you a good book recommendation. The book he chose to share this week is Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson. He has finished this book. He recommends it because "It's a pretty good story, and it has a good lead on. It's also a series." DeKalb Courtwarming Royalty This year's Courtwarming Queen was Brenna Bowen. Brenna is involved in NHS, softball, and FBLA. Brenna has done NHS for two years, softball for four, and three years for FBLA. Out of these activities, Brenna’s favorite is softball. She doesn’t really have a favorite memory from softball. “I just loved making friends and being hype in the dugout”.
King and Queen
When Brenna found out she was a Queen candidate, she recalls,“I was excited because I got to walk with Brandon and wear a pretty dress”. Waiting for the queen to be announced can make someone nervous, but Brenna wasn’t nervous about that part. “I was nervous standing in front of a bunch of people”. When the announcer called Brenna as the queen, she was surprised.
This year’s Courtwarming King was Caden Weinmann. Caden is involved in football, basketball, and FFA. Caden has played football for two years, basketball and FFA for four years. Out of these activities, basketball has been his favorite. Caden doesn’t necessarily have a favorite memory from basketball, but “I like just getting to play”. Standing on a basketball court in front of many people can be pretty nerve wracking. Waiting to hear a name announced, can make anyone get the jitters, but it was different for Caden. On Courtwarming night, Caden didn’t feel nervous. “I wouldn’t say I was nervous, just excited to be nominated for King”. When Caden heard his name be announced as King, “It felt good”.
