STUDENT SUCCESS WHEN SUPPORT MEETS HOPE: THE STUDENT WELLBEING ACTION FUND For many BCIT students, the greatest challenge to completing their education is not academic. Rising living costs, housing instability, food insecurity, and unexpected personal crises can quickly put their studies at risk.
At BCIT, student wellbeing is essential to success. Through the generosity of donors who believe in access, dignity, and opportunity, the Student Wellbeing Action Fund continues to provide reassurance when students need it most.
The Student Wellbeing Action Fund provides timely, compassionate support so students can remain focused on learning when life becomes overwhelming.
As one nursing student shares, this support provided the stability needed to continue pursuing her goals while navigating significant personal and financial challenges.
This past year, its impact was amplified when three alumni stepped forward to match donations, inspiring others to give and extending support to even more students facing urgent need.
“For me, nursing is more than a career—it’s a calling. Without family or a support network, I’ve had to balance full time studies with work just to make ends meet. Thanks to BCIT’s support, my mental health has improved and I can focus on my studies to continue pursuing my path to making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.”
“When students are supported through difficult moments, they are better positioned to succeed academically and professionally,” shared BCIT alumnus, Jeff Musialek. “Student wellbeing is foundational to building strong, resilient graduates who will contribute to our communities.” Support from the fund helps students address immediate needs such as food, transportation, short-term housing, and emergency expenses. Often, it serves as a bridge through crisis, restoring stability and preventing disruptions to education.

DESIGNING SOLUTIONS THAT MATTER For BCIT students, learning extends far beyond the classroom. Through hands-on projects and collaboration with real-world partners, students are challenged to apply their skills to meaningful problems and create solutions that improve lives. That commitment to applied learning was on full display in 2025 when BCIT Biomedical Engineering Technology students earned top honours at the Simon Cox Student Design Competition, a provincial competition focused on assistive technologies for people with mobility challenges. The winning team developed the Assistive Straw, an innovative device that helps individuals with limited mobility or dexterity drink independently. A second team earned recognition for Reel EZ, a modified fishing reel that enables users with mobility limitations to fish one-handed. Together, the two projects brought home three awards and showcased the creativity, technical expertise, and compassion of BCIT students. More importantly, these innovations demonstrate the power of education to create positive change. Before graduation, students were already applying engineering principles to address real challenges faced by members of the community. Through experiences like these, BCIT students graduate not only with technical skills, but with the confidence and experience to make an immediate impact in their professions and communities. Thanks to donor support, students have access to the advanced learning opportunities, equipment, and mentorship that help transform ideas into solutions that matter.

TELLING STORIES THAT MATTER Four BCIT broadcast journalism students turned a challenging story into an awardwinning documentary that showcased the power of experiential learning and donor support. While still completing their studies, Emily Dineen, Sophie Hansen, Lauren Accili, and Lisa Kovtun produced “At What Cost? The Legacy of Florence Girard,” a documentary that earned a prestigious Webster Award for Excellence in Feature Reporting – TV/Video. Their work explored a complex and sensitive story with empathy, integrity and professionalism which they developed through hands-on learning opportunities at BCIT. Scholarships funded by generous donors helped reduce financial pressures and gave the students the confidence and freedom to pursue meaningful investigative reporting.
EMPOWERING STUDENTS, HONOURING DONORS The Celebration of Impact held in Fall 2025, brought together students, donors, alumni, and community partners to recognize the transformative power of philanthropy and the opportunities it creates. The event highlighted how donor generosity is helping students overcome financial barriers, access hands-on learning experiences, and achieve their educational and career goals. Student speakers shared personal stories of how scholarships, bursaries, and donor-funded support allowed them to focus on their studies, build confidence, and pursue ambitious futures. Beyond individual success, donor investments are strengthening BCIT’s ability to deliver innovative education, modernize learning environments, and provide industry-relevant training that benefits communities across British Columbia. 5
TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION INVESTING IN THE FUTURE OF NUCLEAR MEDICINE INITIO Nuclear Medicine’s philanthropic commitment is making a direct impact on BCIT Nuclear Medicine students by reducing financial barriers and strengthening access to education. Over the past three years, INITIO has supported 32 student awards, including a full-ride scholarship in 2025, demonstrating sustained investment in developing the next generation of nuclear medicine professionals. This support allows students

to focus on mastering complex imaging techniques and advancing their clinical skills without the added pressure of financial strain. By enabling more learners to fully engage in their studies, INITIO is helping prepare highly skilled practitioners who are essential to patient diagnosis and care and contribute to a more capable healthcare workforce for the province.

TOMORROW’S PROBLEM SOLVERS Innovation thrives when students are given the opportunity to explore bold ideas and tackle complex challenges. At BCIT, that spirit of innovation was on display at the 2025 Student Innovation Challenge, which attracted a record 101 students from 27 programs across six schools. The competition invites students to develop solutions that address real-world issues through applied research, entrepreneurship, and sustainability. Among the standout projects was a customizable 3D-printed prosthetic socket designed to improve comfort and accessibility for users. Other student teams developed technologies to support Indigenous language preservation, improve access to healthcare services in rural communities, and advance environmental sustainability. Each project reflected BCIT’s distinctive approach to learning by combining technical expertise, creativity, and practical problem solving. Students presented their concepts in a live pitch competition, gaining valuable experience communicating ideas, responding to industry feedback, and refining solutions with real-world application. The result was more than a competition. It was a showcase of the next generation of innovators preparing to shape the future of British Columbia and beyond. Philanthropy helps make experiences like this possible by creating opportunities for students to experiment, collaborate, and bring new ideas to life. Through innovation challenges and applied research, BCIT students are gaining the skills, confidence, and experience needed to solve tomorrow’s challenges today.

TRANSFORMING LIVES THROUGH PROSTHETICS AND ORTHOTICS For 45 years, BCIT’s Prosthetics and Orthotics program has advanced innovation in mobility care and applied healthcare education. Through hands-on, technology-driven learning, students develop expertise in emerging materials, fabrication methods, design, fitting, and patient-specific device creation. Graduates have gone on to improve mobility solutions in hospitals, rehabilitation centres, and private clinics, helping enhance patient outcomes and independence. Donor support helps BCIT keep pace with a rapidly evolving field by providing students with access to specialized technologies, equipment, and hands-on learning experiences. Together, BCIT and its donors are preparing the next generation of skilled professionals to turn innovation into better mobility solutions and improve quality of life.
FROM CLASSROOM TO CAREER: TRANSOFT SOLUTIONS POWERS STUDENT SUCCESS Through a longstanding partnership with Transoft Solutions, BCIT engineering students are gaining hands-on experience with the same software used by engineering firms, municipalities, and transportation agencies around the world. The software donation provides students with access to industry-standard transportation engineering tools, helping them build practical skills and graduate prepared for the workforce. “Applied learning is at the heart of what we do at BCIT,” says Haesung Ahn, Instructor of Transportation Engineering and Road Geometric Design. “Having access to Transoft’s software, including AutoTURN for vehicle swept-path analysis, TORUS for roundabout planning, and GuideSIGN for traffic sign visualization, gives students the opportunity to work with the same tools used by industry professionals which makes their education more relevant and practical.” The partnership extends beyond software. Transoft engineers regularly visit BCIT classrooms to lead demonstrations and share insights from real-world projects, helping students understand how technology is applied in professional practice. As Daniel Shihundu, CEO of Transoft Solutions, explains, “By donating our tools, we’re helping bridge the gap between theory and practice. Students aren’t just learning concepts— they’re gaining experience with the same technology used by professionals in the field.” “We don’t just want to provide software,” adds Ronak Joshi, Regional Account Manager of Transoft Solutions. “We want students to understand how it’s used in the real world and to know that industry professionals are there to support them.” Together, Transoft and BCIT are helping students graduate with the confidence, experience, and careerready skills needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving profession. 7
CAMPUS DEVELOPMENT BCIT TRADES AND TECHNOLOGY COMPLEX UPDATE: BUILDING THE FUTURE OF SKILLED TRADES The BCIT Trades and Technology Complex is advancing into its next phase, marking continued progress toward a bold vision for the future of skilled trades education at BCIT. Work is scheduled to commence for the new Mott Electric Pavilion in the coming months. With construction now underway on the Welding Canopy and the Robert Bosa Carpentry Pavilion, momentum continues to build across the Trades and Technology Complex. Together, these facilities, including the future Concert Properties Centre for Trades and Technology,
will create an inspiring learning environment where students can develop the practical skills demanded by today’s industries. More than new buildings, these spaces represent new opportunities for students, expanded capacity for applied learning, and a stronger workforce for British Columbia. Thanks to the generosity of donors and industry partners, this vision is becoming a reality and helping prepare the next generation of skilled trades professionals to thrive.
BCIT TALL TIMBER STUDENT HOUSING: COMING TOGETHER TO SUPPORT STUDENT SUCCESS BCIT’s Tall Timber Student Housing opened in Fall 2025 adding 469 much-needed beds while creating a vibrant, supportive environment designed for connection, well-being, and academic success. Built through collaboration between donors, industry, and government, the project goes beyond infrastructure and demonstrates a shared commitment to help students thrive, foster belonging, and create a lasting impact to support the future leaders of BC’s workforce.

ROBERT BOSA CARPENTRY PAVILION: BUILDING THE FUTURE OF TRADES TRAINING The Robert Bosa Carptentry Pavilion continues to take shape as a landmark addition to BCIT’s Trades and Technology Complex. Construction is now well underway, bringing to life a purpose built, mass timber facility that will expand hands on training for carpentry students. Once complete, the pavilion will provide modern, industry aligned learning spaces that reflect the environments students will encounter in their careers. This project represents an important step forward in strengthening skilled trades education and preparing graduates for the workforce British Columbia needs. Thank you to generous donors such as the Robert Bosa Family Foundation for helping build the spaces where practical skills, confidence, and future careers take shape.
WELDING CANOPY: ENHANCING HANDS-ON TRAINING ENVIRONMENTS Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, BCIT welding students are now benefiting from an improved outdoor training environment designed to support year-round, handson learning. The new canopy expands dedicated space for instruction and equipment, creating a more functional setting for applied skills development. By providing weather protection and additional teaching capacity, this upgrade helps ensure students can continue building practical experience in conditions that reflect real industry environments. This investment strengthens safety, supports high-quality instruction, and demonstrates the meaningful impact of philanthropy in preparing students for in-demand careers.
MOTT ELECTRIC PAVILION: EXPANDING OPPORTUNITY IN ELECTRICAL TRADES The Mott Electric Pavilion marks an important step forward in expanding access to electrical apprenticeship training at BCIT. Made possible through the leadership and generosity of Dan Mott and Mott Electric, the Pavilion reflects a strong commitment to strengthening the skilled trades workforce. Construction is expected to commence this Fall. Once complete, the purpose-built space will create more than 250 new student seats each year while providing hands-on training in emerging areas such as renewable energy, robotics, and automated controls. As part of the Trades and Technology Complex, the Pavilion will help address growing demand for skilled electrical professionals while enhancing learning environments for thousands of students. This progress highlights how generosity creates lasting opportunities for students and helps prepare the next generation of skilled trades professionals across British Columbia.
