CELEBRATING THE RESIDENTIAL PARK COMMUNITIES FOR 64 YEARS

Palm Springs Power Baseball

A summer must for baseball fans By Alison Elsner

P

eanuts, cracker jacks, cold drinks, Rocky the Ram mascot…and baseball, plenty of all-American baseball. The temps are rising, but fans rarely notice the heat when sitting in the stands, cheering on the home team and enjoying this community activity right in the middle of Palm Springs. The June schedule includes games against area teams like the Riverside Bulldogs, San Diego Force, Inland Valley Bucs, California Jays, OC Pirates, OC Riptide, SoCal Bombers, SoCal Halos and SoCal Sparrows. Home games are held Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and they start at 7:05 p.m. The SCCBL (Southern California Collegiate Baseball League) championship series follows from July 16-21. During the season, the Power holds several special promotional nights, like Tuesday $2 Days, where hot dogs, sodas and pints are $2 each. The Power also will have Kid’s Day on Saturdays, with admission of $2 for those 12 and under. Sunday Fundays will include free admission to the Bounce House, as well as $2 ice cream bars and $2 Bud pints. The

Power Pit concession stand always adds to the excitement with fun treats and cold beverages for everyone. Power President Andrew Starke has been at the helm of the organization since its inception in 2003. He anticipates a number of new and returning players from area schools to fill out the roster, and he’s proud of the fact the Club is able to recruit elite collegiate players from around the country. The summer season runs through July 14. On July 4, fans can expect a festive evening with fireworks (game time is a bit earlier that night at 6 p.m. so that the fireworks show can start at 9:15 p.m.) Tickets can be purchased at the Palm Springs Power Baseball Office, located inside Palm Springs Stadium, on both game days and non-game days from 12 to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday, and/ or at the box office which opens an hour before games. The Palm Springs Power Baseball season runs through July 14. The Palm Springs Stadium is located at 1901 East Baristo Road in Palm Springs.
