Last year, Team Europe walked away with the first Atlantic Challenge Cup in a four-day emotional roller coaster that had Team USA mounting a comeback on the last day that just fell short. Team Europe will come to the USA

EVENT VENUE Attending the Atlantic Challenge Cup will keep you plenty busy this year with riveting action and world-class competition, but just in case you find you need a little downtime, the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center and Hotel has a lot to offer.
Our host hotel is not only a great place to hold events like the Atlantic Challenge Cup, BCA Expo, and BEF Junior Nationals, it’s also the perfect place to socialize, relax and have fun. Rooms are stylish while making you feel at home, with 32-inch flat panel HDTV’s and high-speed Internet access. When it’s time to eat, you can enjoy a buffet breakfast, continental breakfast or full American breakfast. Sam & Harry’s Steak House is renown for its USDA Prime steaks, and fresh seafood. For a quick bite, check out the Wintergarden Café, which sells Starbucks beverages (both hot and iced), along with pastries, sandwiches, and light salads. For casual dining, you and your friends will want to head to the Gather Bar for delicious food in a relaxed “sports bar” atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot to wind down with a few friends after an intense day of competition. After eating all of that delicious food, you’re going to need some exercise! The Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel Fitness Center has cardiovascular equipment, free weights, along with treadmills, stationary bikes and elliptical machines. The hotel also has an indoor salt-water swimming pool and a whirlpool for all guest to enjoy. If you’d like to do some sightseeing, you can take an architecture tour through the Chicago Architecture Foundation River Cruise.
Other options include Mystic Blue Cruises and the Spirit of Chicago Cruise, which offer views of the city via Lake Michigan. Golfers have three courses nearby. The Schaumburg Golf Club is a 6,700-yard, par 72 course that offers rentals and lessons, while Arlington Lakes Golf Club is a 5,360-yard, par 68 that also has a driving range. If you’re pressed for time, there’s the nine-hole Walnut Green nearby. For nature lovers, Spring Valley Sanctuary is a must. Only 10 minutes from the hotel is 135 acres of fields, forests, marshes and streams. It’s a great place to hike, bird watch, breathe fresh air or just to get back to nature to decompress. If games of chance are your thing, you can play the ponies at Arlington Park or place your bets at the Grand Victoria Casino. And if you’re looking for the best in dining and shopping, the Renaissance Schaumburg provides shuttle service to the Woodfield Mall, a top destination for upscale shopping, delightful dining, and all around family entertainment. TEAM USA CAPTAIN EARL MUNSON
Being named Captain of Team USA for the Atlantic Challenge Cup the past two years is the pinnacle of my career. While I am very proud of the many junior players and teams I have trained during the past 20 years, there is truly no higher honor for me than representing my country as the Atlantic Challenge Cup Team USA Captain. The significance of the Atlantic Challenge Cup is the awareness that it brings to the junior pool players in the United States and Europe. The entire U.S. billiard industry has come together with a common goal of supporting Team USA. I also believe that the cultural exchange this event provides these young players is a priceless opportunity. As the event unfolded last year, I remember having the realization of just how this annual competition is going to teach our young players how to properly prepare and compete at the highest level of play. But, I also witnessed a competitive drive from Team USA that was truly unbelievable. Last year’s team simply would not give up, even when we were down 3-8. Words can’t explain how proud I was when our team continued to fight and persevere for the entire four days. Last year, there were five matches that went hill-hill, with four of the five
matches going to the Europeans. We had the opportunity to win the entire event in 2015, but give credit to Team Europe for their outstanding victory. This year, I look forward to seeing how the talented European Team will play against our Team USA on American soil in front of American fans. I know we all respect the Europeans and their skills, but I am confident that Team USA, led by last year’s MVP April Larson, will be as competitive as possible in an effort to keep the Cup on this side of the Atlantic in 2016. In preparing Team USA, I have been committed to bringing in the best coaches and professional players available to train our players. I am so thankful for the Black Widow Foundation that let our players train with BCA Hall of Famers Jeanette Lee, Johnny Archer, Allison Fisher and Nick Varner, as well as all of the dozens of players, supporters and sponsors that continue to help prepare Team USA for the competition. Honestly, though, what I love most about this event is that it is truly a win-win for all involved, no matter the final score. Earl Munson Team USA Captain

TEAM EUROPE CAPTAIN THOMAS BRIKMANIS For the past six years, I have coached our national team, and look forward to bringing my experience as a coach to the youngsters of Team Europe. To be able to coach and lead Team Europe in the second Atlantic Challenge Cup is an unbelievable feeling. Being a member of this team is very emotional and is much larger than just one player, or one coach, or one team. What this event means to pool is simply incomparable. Watching the Atlantic Challenge Cup last year, and the rally that Team USA lead was very surprising. They showed what it means to have true team spirit and that they could indeed change the outcome of the game with their determination and perseverance. The importance of the Atlantic Challenge Cup is unmeasurable. SCHEDULE OF PLAY FORMAT ATLANTIC CHALLENGE CUP
SCHEDULE OF PLAY FORMAT The Team Captains may not use the same pair twice. There are seven doubles matches and a possible 12 different pairings. REFEREES The 2016 Atlantic Challenge Cup will be officiated by Rick Doner of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Ricky Bryant of Elkhart, Indiana. SHOT CLOCK There is a 25 + 10 seconds shot clock on all shots. Only exception to this after the break shot where 60 seconds are given with a warning after 50 seconds. In team and doubles play, only the shooter at the table may ask for an extension. Each player/pair can ask for an extension of 25 seconds once per frame but only the player at the table may call an extension during the match. A referee will always confirm the extension, if the player does not hear confirmation they must state clearly again to the referee and receive confirmation. The referee has the power to stop the clock. This is in the event of any extraordinary occurrence, for example, a player playing out of turn in the doubles or team matches. The match will then recommence with the referee stating “start the clock.” The clock will not be reset, it will continue from when it was stopped. TIME OUTS Each player is allowed one 5-minute time out, regardless of length of match race. The Team Captain may suggest a time out be taken, but it must be requested by the player(s).
