t their last debate before Election Day, the candidates running for District 8 supervisor argued over who will make the hard choices when it comes to cutting the city’s budget while protecting core services. The city is facing an estimated $400 million to $450 million budget deficit next fiscal year, which could grow if the economy sours even further. Who would be the best person to help steer the city through another round of cuts while pushing through policies to improve the local economy has become a major sticking point in the race. “What San Francisco needs right now is serious leadership; someone who knows

he sixth annual Stop AIDS Project’s “Queens Are Wild” benefit October 22 included celebrity dealers Turk Mason and Michael Brandon wearing little in the way of clothing. The evening raised nearly $20,000 for the agency’s programs in HIV prevention and health education. Other celebrity dealers included Board of Supervisor candidates from Districts 6 and 8, local community notables, and of course drag queens, most prominently the hostess for the evening, Juanita More. Add in a raffle, DJ dancing, and clever Halloween costumes and it was a fun, worthwhile evening.
